Description
1978 Suzuki GS750 – recent engine rebuild. Appeared in Classic Motorcycle Mechanics and was that month's cover bike.
UK bike from new, registered in May 1978. Purchased in October 2020. Shows 5814 miles, but suspect new dials fitted around ~18 years ago; would guess around 20-30k original miles.
Carbs and brakes fully cleaned and serviced in 2018. Engine stripped and cylinder bores de-glazed in 2020. Those jobs total over £2k alone. Carbs checked and cleaned again in 2020. Last MOT in June 2022, passed no advisories. Clean MOT passes since 2012 (MOT history online from 2008 - check reg VWJ571S). Covered only 67 miles since that last MOT, but is kept on a trickle charger and is started at least once a month, running through gears and warning the engine until idling without choke. Kept stored in brick garage, under cover.
This was my dream bike, but is now a very reluctant sale due to a hand and wrist injury (now being deemed permanent) that leaves me with reduced strength on the throttle and very hard work to ride. She needs to be ridden and enjoyed properly, not sat around as an ornament.
This actual bike appeared on the cover of September 2019 Classic Motorcycle Mechanics
- a copy of which is included in the sale.
Additional parts and details:
- Tyres replaced in June 2021 with Avon Roadrider 2s.
- 2 keys.
- Replaced battery in August 2021 (MOTOBATT, MBTX14AU).
- Numerous parts replaced with NoS/ OEM parts (the replaced parts and all packaging included; I never throw anything away): mirrors and mirror cushions (a rare find), clutch lever, rear light gaskets and screws, pilot bulb holder.
- Original 1978 manual.
- 4x workshop manuals: 2x Cylmer 1977-79 (US and UK versions), Clymer 1977-82, Haynes 1976-79.
- Original marketing brochures (UK and US versions).
- Spare spark plugs.
- New leather seat cover and strap. Original is in great shape, but managed to acquire this replacement if ever needed.
- 3 or 4 original brochures featuring the GS750 from this year (somewhere! if I can't find them before the sell, then I'll send them on post a sale).
As I say, a very reluctant sales but would prefer to know she’s being enjoyed rather than sitting still.
