I have, with a heavy heart, decided to sell my lovely MGF as she is not being driven due to a change in circumstances.
She is a beautiful, (non-VVC) Starlight Silver MGF 1. 8 Convertible with a very low mileage (only 19, 126* since new) - first registered in June 1999. She is currently garaged and on SORN. [* Advertisement updated 28-08-24 due to her having an MOT test, which she passed with no advisories.]
As well as being in exceptional condition, both mechanically and cosmetically, she also has an interesting history; she was auctioned, and given the special registration plate M6 LSO, at a charity event during Andre Previn’s 70th Birthday Gala at the Barbican, London, in 1999 with the London Symphony Orchestra. The owner’s handbook bears the plate details in the cover photograph and is also signed by Andre Previn, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Anne-Sophie Mutter and the LSO players - a collection item in itself.
As can be seen from the photographs, she is a stunning example of this make/ model of car, with unusual/ attractive half-leather red seats and co-ordinating gear and handbrake gaiters.
She was purchased by me in a generally very good condition in September 2022 (with 19, 023 miles on the clock) and has been garaged for the majority of the time ever since whilst my husband (an RAC mechanic) lovingly brought her back to an almost pristine state, as we had every intention of keeping her for the long-term. Detailed below is some of the work that he has undertaken:
Replacement coolant pipes (now stainless steel).
Replacement throttle body (upgraded to a wider diameter and from plastic to aluminium).
Replacement of radiator top coolant hose.
Replacement door panels (retaining the original fabric) as the originals had peeled/ perished beyond viable repair.
Fitting of a rear, high-level brake light (for safety reasons).
Fitting of anti-lock roof straps.
Replacement door speakers.
Replacement hood strike plates/ catches.
Replacement sun visors.
Replacement gear and hand-brake gaiters.
Full cleaning and waterproofing of canvas hood.
Removal of small bodywork dents, which were present at time of purchase (work carried out by a specialist contractor).
As a precaution only, the owner prior to me had a new head gasket, cam belt and water pump fitted on 14-09-2020. He also had a replacement clutch fitted in November of the same year. The receipts for this work are available to view.
I have MOT evidence of the vehicle’s mileage from 26th April 2012 (9, 365) through to her last test on 25th August 2023 (19, 094).
The vehicle also has new footwell mats and seat covers (to preserve the original fabric whilst in general use) and will be supplied with a custom, outside car cover (which I purchased/ used for my previous MGF), a spare tonneau cover and a second radio antenna.
For aesthetic reasons, we replaced the radio that was in the vehicle at the time of purchase (a modern Bluetooth model) with a more discrete-looking, top-end Pioneer unit, but I do have the (untested) one that was originally fitted to the car when manufactured.
I have a valuation certificate from the MG Owners Club for £7000 (dated 27-04-2023) (with 19, 094 miles on the clock) and an agreed valuation certificate from Lancaster Insurance, for the same amount, which is effective from 08-05-2023 to 05-05-2025. She has only been driven 78 miles since the time of my purchase/ these valuations, which includes a round trip to the MOT station! Although valued at this amount, she is being advertised at a much-reduced price in the hope of selling her to someone that can drive and enjoy her.
She is truly one of a kind and needs to find a new home, where she will continue to be cherished and appreciated. With her condition, low mileage and interesting provenance, I am sure that she is destined to become a classic vehicle.
