1973 Ford Capri Mark 1

This car started life as a 1600XL but was converted to a 3. 0 in the 1990's with a view to go racing, which it did for around 25 years. The car is in a nice presentable (race car) condition, but does have one or two little marks on the body The interior is OK but being it was, and still could be a race/ track day car it is not perfect and if one wanted there are many little details that could be restored. However is has new carpets and a headliner fitted to it. It is fitted with an RS3100 style rear spoiler and I also have a full bolt in roll cage should you want it.

Being it was a race car, everything you would expect has been uprated including brakes and suspension and is fitted with a LSD. It comes with 4-pot AP brakes on the front with a disc brake rear conversion. However the current V6 Essex engine while completely rebuilt over the winter is in a mild state of tune, ideal for road use, That said with its rebuilt bottom end it is a blank canvas should you want to add performance heads and cam. Burton Engineering will only be too happy to help you with supplying the parts you need, with around 250bhp being obtainable on a single carb. At the time of the engine build, a new HD clutch was fitted so its a little heavier but still useable on the street.

The last MOT was dated Jan 1996 and after then it is believed that it was taken off the road and converted to use as a race car. In recent years it was re-registered as a 3. 0 and Swansea allocated it the reg number PRC 86L.

It does come with some race results showing the previous owner attending various UK race circuits around the country and there is at least one rolling road report on the car, plus a competition log book with picture, dated from 2002.

It starts on the button and once warmed up sits at around 65C and has great oil pressure, you can drive this car anywhere. Not only will you love it but everyone loves it, you cant go to the supermarket or gas station without it causing a stranger to want to talk to you about it. So not for the shy! At car shows its a constant draw and everyone will talk to you about their Capri experiences.

The gleaming Ford Radiant Red and Diamond White actually replicates a scheme of an RS2600 that raced in Europe back in the early-mid 1970's although the car has carried this livery in Historic Touring Car racing for at least 25 years.

While some say the MkII is rarer you dont see many Mk1's now and by far the prettiest and desirable of the Capris. The parts network is buoyant so no issue in getting bits for them at affordable prices.

With its K&N Filter you get that lovely induction noise from the Webber 38DGAS carb and the exhaust note while sporty, is not over loud.

So to sum up you can use this as is and enjoy driving it on the street and to car shows, or you could like I planned to, take it to track days or even get involved in racing it again in one of the Historic Saloon/ Touring car championships. There is not really much not to like, and I can only see this car apricate in value.
