Description
Time for my 1969 SS50 (with 88cc big bore fitted) to find a new home. I bought it from a friend here in France for reasons of nostalgia (I had a couple of SSs in the 80s and raced one in the 90s in Moped Endurance) but having brought it back to life it's not getting used and I don't want it to deteriorate in my dusty, damp barn.
It's an original UK model (not an import), UK registered, as a historic vehicle. V5c in previous owner's name (not a problem). Still registered as 50cc, and the barrel is still stamped 49cc, so up to buyer whether to declare the big bore to DVLA.
It looks lovely from a distance, but closer up it's a bit tatty round the edges. The chrome's been polished to within an inch of its life and although it's previously been repainted, that's now been touched up in several places (especially the front mudguard) and some rust is coming through.
On the plus side, it's very low mileage and has an 88cc big bore kit, and matching cylinder head and 22mm carb from OORacing, fitted by a previous owner (so I don't have the standard parts unfortunately). I've spent a fair while getting it running right, although there's still scope to fine tune the jetting. It came to me with a sideways facing inlet manifold but I've fitted a standard type inlet to put the carb back into the frame as standard, although with a pod filter rather than the original setup. I also spent a fair bit of time sorting the electrics so everything works, including the indicators, although I think the battery is probably in need of replacement. The clutch slips occasionally when kickstarting so presumably needs adjusting.
It's located in Normandy, France, but the price includes bringing it back to UK via Newhaven, and either meeting up near there or delivering straight to your door for fuel cost, depending on location (South coast, East Anglia, East Midlands no problem, further north or west I'd need bribing...)
Any questions, fire away.
