Description

For sale here is this charming Morris J-Type Ice Cream Van, that still operates among race courses across Yorkshire after 50 years of service, and is the last of its type that remains in the world.

Originally delivered to Pessngno Ice Cream of Manchester in 1954, it was coach built utilising an all aluminium body, eliminating the potential for rust, unlike many of the steel-bodied vans of the same era. It experienced an extensive working life, working among the streets up until 1980. During that period, the engine and gearbox were replaced to the later B-Series engine and a 4 speed gearbox, replacing the less powerful and economical side valve engine and the 3 speed box. From 1980 to 1993, the van ceased working and laid idle. In 1993, the van was then bought and received a complete restoration for a following 7 years. It then returned to providing ice cream across Devon, being cared for comprehensively and was maintained considerably well. The current owner, a J-Type enthusiast, purchased the van in 2021, and since has continued to work grandstand side across the Yorkshire Racecourses. The van is mechanically excellent, with no oil leaks present and the chassis appears in a superb condition and is lightly wax oiled. It also has Coker tyres, along with a custom made stainless steel exhaust. Moving to the working area, there is a top of the range, large capacity Geist freezer, stainless steel worktops and sinks, with a spacious working area, suitable for 2 people, and as per the pictures, a 5 star hygiene rating. There are several Youtube videos which document the a lot of the restoration work that was completed on it also.

This van is offered in an outstanding condition all around, thanks to its previous owners who have had the passion and care to continue to preserve the heritage, not only of the van but the industry, as this is the last of its type in the world. You are very unlikely to find a better example of a Morris J-Type Ice cream van that still holds its legacy and delivers happiness such as this beautiful example. It is now ready for a new owner to continue its history or to become a part of a cherished collection.
