I acquired this Alfa just over 3 years ago with the intention of a full nut and bolt restoration. I had been looking over many years for a series 2 in this colour with the burgundy interior. RHD, UK supplied. I found it in an industrial unit in Kent under a thick layer of dust, but complete and totally original. The car had been driven into the unit and had begun to be stripped out.
The project started in earnest around October 2021, then due to post COVID financial restraints, stalled in the December of 2021. The work carried out so far has been thorough with no expense spared and all fully documented. This has mainly included renewing all nearside panels, sills and floor pan. The work was carried out at Retromarques in Malvern by Mark Knight and team. Since then the body has remained in specialist storage.
The car itself has had a interesting history, including an opera singer who toured Europe in it and racing driver John Griffiths (who I purchased the car from). It is now ready to be prepared for the next chapter in its life.
It would make a compelling project and I am happy to let the car go for a reasonable offer. Originally supplied to a Mrs Chandler of High Wycombe, this Spider comes with a good deal of history and great provenance. It has its Certificate Di Origine from Alfa Romeo. No. AR2472926, production date 27. 12. 1977, delivered to London on 29. 12. 1977. The car is as originally supplied and hasn't been altered in any way during its 46 years.
It is currently on a jig/ frame to maintain its structural integrity as the work is carried out. Everything else has been stripped from the car and boxed so work can progress without interruption.
This is one of very few UK supplied series 2, RHD in Dutch Blue with burgundy interior left. Everything is on show and therefore there are no hidden surprises that you might encounter buying a 'restored' example.
I purchased the car for £5500 and have thus far spent £8724. 54 on new panels and welding.
