Description
The bad bits,
The front wings and boot floor require to be replaced due to rust. The scuttle and bulkhead panels aren't too bad and are likely salvageable.
The car now sits in a nice dry garage but it did spend a year parked outside under some trees so the main body of the car has quite a lot of surface rust, particularly on the roof. The paint is in poor nick also.
The better bits,
The sills on either side of the car were replaced along with old metal removed and new metal welded in where required on the floor. Hammerite was then vigorously applied to battle future rust.
The engine runs and has proven reliable in the not too distant past with runs from Dundee to Aberdeen and even a long break in Inverness under its belt back in 2020. Worth noting however that since sitting in the garage it has leaked oil from below the sump with no investigation of the cause having taken place. That being said the engine does run and can idle smoothly after a bit of carburettor fiddling.
The interior of this car is actually from another mini. The rather moth-eaten grey seats were removed and replaced with a black leather and cream piping interior from another car, including the rear bench. My guess is that the seats and bench alone probably make up a good portion of the car’s value.
In summary,
The floor and interior of this car are in fairly good, albeit dusty condition. The main body and engine are in ok condition, the front panels and some of the chrome work are basically dog meat. For a few years this was a much loved car owned by two mates who took it on some adventures and repaired the floor. These days neither of us have the time to dedicate to bringing it back to its former glory and would like to see it go to someone else who can bring it back to life and enjoy it. It's a Mini! These are great project cars and not many other cars can put such a big smile on your face when attacking a twisty road.
Far from perfect but a great project that isn't a million miles away from an MOT and its next adventure.
