Renowned as a reliable and solidly built touring cabriolet, the Mercedes R107 SL series is a highly sought-after collector's vehicle whose values remain constant and strong. This 1983 example offers all the well known virtues of the model: elegant and sober lines, a comfortable interior, a spacious boot and an easy driving style. An R107 could almost be used as an everyday car, and the 280 SL is powered by Mercedes' tried and trusted six-cylinder engine. Its performance is more than enough to get around Europe, and above all it's much cheaper at the pump than the V8's. Of European origin (it's not an American version with a deflated engine), my model is matchnig number. The car was meticulously restored in 2021 and 2022. The paintwork, upholstery and soft top were all redone. The 6 floors and crossmembers were changed and are also new. So the underside is once again very sound. The engine and braking system were also overhauled, and the steering knuckles and tyres were changed. As a result, the car passed the latest roadworthiness test with zero faults, and will remain valid until December 2027. The professionally executed restoration represents an investment of more than 20, 000 euros. The car starts, drives and brakes very well. The gears also shift very well. So it's very pleasant to cruise with your elbow on the door. The car radio is present, but the security code is missing. And the air conditioning, which is also present, needs recharging, but is that really useful on a convertible? Serviced since 2007, this is a fine example of a classic collector's car that has not lost any of its wrinkles following the extensive restoration work carried out. Its future owner will enjoy all the qualities of the SL: classic elegance accompanied by refined roadholding, while benefiting from the fuel economy and low maintenance costs of the six-cylinder engine. Delivery can be arranged with the international transport companies present in the south of France. Bought and restored for driving with my hair blowing in the wind, I find this Mercedes not dynamic enough. I therefore invested in a Porsche 911, which gives me more driving pleasure. The extensive restoration carried out sets it apart from the often tired models, both in terms of chassis and upholstery. The engine and gearbox are the original ones and they still work very well even though just a complete service was carried out (oil and filter changes + adjustments).
