Description
Pilgrim Sumo kit car constructed between 1992 and 1994 and based upon a 1982 Mk1 Ford Sierra.
When inspected by the DVLA in 1994 (pre-IVA/ SVA) it was allowed to retain the donor registration and the V5 reflects the 2nd of December 1982 as the Date of First Registration.
I have since put a different registration on the car, which reflects the year of the original: 1965
The Make recorded on the V5 is PILGRIM SUMO MKIII.
It is also registered as a HISTORIC VEHICLE on the V5, as it is now over 40 years old. As a result, annual Vehicle Excise Duty (Road Tax) is £0.
The inspiration for the styling of the Pilgrim Sumo is the 1965 AC Shelby Cobra 427 SC whilst the 3, 528cc/ 215ci V8 engine in this example is from a 1974 Rover P6 and the 5-speed LT77 gearbox came from a 1983 Rover SD1. I have owned this car since March 2018 and have made some improvements to it over that time. It is used regularly to attend Club Meetings and Car Shows and never fails to be a talking point on every trip.
The car was originally built by Max and his father and Max kept the car for over 20 years before selling it to the person that I purchased it from a couple of years later.
I had wanted a Cobra replica since I first learned about them in the early 1990's and my intention was to build my own but it never seemed to be the right time.
Fortunately, the opportunity to buy this example came up and I'm glad that I took the plunge. The time has now come to allow someone else to enjoy it.
