Description

The Mini Cooper S Mk. II is one of the rarer models available, with only 6, 300 units believed to have been produced therefore finding stunning examples like this these days is proving to be a rather difficult task, making this example all the rarer. Originally manufactured on July 4th 1968, this Cooper S has been subject to a full nut and bolt rebuild, along with an engine rebuild, and a plethora of maintenance over the years. Now, the car arguably stands as a concourse example, that would easily suit classic car collections of the highest level.

As the included Heritage Certificate specifies, this superb four-speed manual Mini Cooper S was manufactured and dispatched from the factory in July of 1968, prior to being sold by Mann Edgerton Cars of Wimbledon. The vehicle was no doubt thoroughly enjoyed in the years that followed before it was decided that this little hot hatch would be in for a full nut and bolt rebuild. The rebuild was carried out to the highest standard, by an ex-production line engineer, who is believed to have worked on the original production line between 1963/ 68, he was the sixth of just eight owners in over 55 years.

The freshly restored Mini was then acquired in 2015, and it was continually pampered and shows exceptional care. The vehicle was also subject to a full engine rebuild in 2017, along with a thorough hydrolastic suspension overhaul. Since its engine rebuild, the vehicle has covered very few miles and has been dry-stored, awaiting its infrequent outings only in the dry!

Comprehensive evidence of the above work and previous restoration is included with the vehicle’s paperwork, in the form of photographs, and invoices detailing parts and consumables. Also included, is the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Heritage Certificate, and the V5C registration document coupled to an MoT test certificate which the owner insisted upon even though not required to prove the car was indeed as good as it looks.

Having been fully restored, the vehicle sports a superb coat of Snowberry White paintwork, with a sleek black roof, the paintwork and finish leave nothing to be further desired and offer a condition worthy of any collection. Accompanying the fresh paintwork, are the correct 10” steel wheels, which suit the vehicle perfectly and come complete with matching hub caps, wrapped in a matching set of Camac tyres. Chrome details, additional brightwork, and external trim pieces also present themselves beautifully, the combination of original wheels, a fully refurbished exterior, and fresh paintwork leave the Mini in truly fantastic condition.

Much like the superb exterior, the restored and retrimmed interior has been treated to considerable attention to detail throughout the vehicle’s restoration process, the cabin shows off a huge array of refurbished and new components, all of which present themselves well. Both front seats show no noticeable signs of wear or blemishes, with the exception of perhaps a slight crease across the driver’s base. The rear seats follow suit. Facing forwards, you’re treated to a sleek black dash, adorned with the correct Smiths instruments, all of which are clear and in full working order.

Following its rebuild, the vehicle was then acquired and the 1275cc engine perfected by the then owner, with the hydrolastic system refreshed. The engine itself was rebuilt to a very high standard by a specialist, who is said to have experience working for the highly regarded Downton Motor Engineering. Once the rebuilt engine was re-installed, the vehicle’s odometer was reset, and now displays a very low figure today. As you would perhaps expect given the vehicle's vast history and excellent restoration work, this Mini Cooper S performs exactly as it should, with no known faults. The vehicle now presents itself in a near-new mechanical condition, no doubt offering plenty of enjoyable and dependable miles for many more years to come with the correct spare wheel, and tools to boot. an amazing original Mini Cooper S very original lovingly cared for
