Description

Originally from an estate sale of impeccably maintained cars, this is a superb example of an all original water cooler MX4 super sports.
Bills coming with the machine attest to a full engine rebuild & painstaking restoration. Chassis tubes, new barrels & pistons to name one or two outstanding examples of important work done. This car is crank, or starter motor for those who are not engine cranking enthusiasts, with a brisk turnover.
A lot of period history comes with the car which is well worth reading. It resided in Scotland for some years in the 1950's, prior to moving south. In the last two decades she has covered some 5000 miles mostly on the back roads of Kent, Sussex & Essex.
Driving is a unique experience, & she even has a second (spare) & very thin seat set, which allows for bigger drivers. It's a three speed & easily mastered gearbox with reverse where one usually finds 4th. The throttle is on the steering wheel so driving technique is unorthodox, but it's easy to master.

In their day these cars were notably high performance, being able to outdo most other cars on the road. Performance to this day does not disappoint with lively acceleration from the Plumstead built engine. Docile around town, the exhaust changes to a head turning bark throttle open. A video of the car being driven by the previous owner can be seen here: - details above
There is useful storage behind the seat back which is also where the battery is found. The rear beetle back lid also flips up, to allow more space for light luggage & hand tools in a large removable tray , which lifts out to reveal the chain driven rear wheel.
The Matchless V twin runs beautifully with delightfully exposed chattering rockers & horse shoe valve springs. Steering is light & direct, & suspension supple, giving the car good handling. A custom made towing A frame also comes with the car just in case of an accident.

At 90 years of age this car has benefited from the not inconsiderable efforts of nearly every previous owner, putting her now in mechanically unprecedented repair. She is absolutely ready for touring.
