Very reluctant sale of my turn key 1964 Mercury Monterey Marauder. It has a fully rebuilt 390FE engine which runs like a dream. Engine was rebuilt 1000 miles ago, I have just done a second oil and filter change to complete the running in properly. One at around 100 miles and one at 1000.
The engine has Edelbrock aluminium cylinder heads and intake manifold, a street performance camshaft and full stainless steel exhaust system which sounds lovely.
The uprated aluminium radiator works perfectly. On a hot day driving down the motorway the water temperature sits on the low end of the gauge, and doesnt overheat in traffic. It also gets between 10 and 20mpg depending on driving style.
Interior is in really good condition with the exception of the sun visors. But seats, headliner, carpets and dash are great. Front seat slides forwards and backwards very smoothly.
Body work is very straight across every panel. It is dry underneath, NO ROT. Consistent with being imported from Texas in 2016. I have owned it for around 4 years now and It has been garage stored through my ownership.
The car has obviously had a respray at some point, into a pearlescent white. It looks great from a distance but there are some imperfections on the top facing panels. Personally I prefer it to being pristine as its not such a worry to take to a car show. People have no problem scratching fresh paintwork even when they dont mean to.
The previous owner did an air con and heater delete which never bothered me as I only drive on nice sunny days when there is no water or road salt around. I was looking into a Vintage Air system but never got around to it.
The brakes have been uprated to servo operated discs all round. They stop the car very well. It tracks in a straight line, the wheel doesnt wobble or shake as you drive and the tyres wear evenly as far as I can tell.
I fitted 15" smoothies on it with 4 brand new tyres around 400 miles ago.
I am not in any rush to sell this car. People who make stupid offers will be ignored.
I am only selling it as my dad passed away and left me another project I have wanted since I was a child and I will need space to complete a restoration on it. Thats the dream at least.
