Description
This Moke has undergone a full restoration completed in April 2024.
When it comes to Mini Mokes, this is a rare example of the rarest breed…one of only 320 built by British Leyland in Rhodesia in the early 60’s.
All Mokes were basically sent out in kit form by British Leyland to new British Leyland plants in new markets worldwide, where they were assembled and sold into these new markets, one of which was Rhodesia where this particular Moke was created.
About a third of the 320 Mokes built in in Rhodesia were sold to the British Army and into the Fire Service, with the balance being sold mainly to farmers in Rhodesia.
This particular Mini Moke is build number 120, so was in private hands for over 40 years in Rhodesia, then sold to the previous owner who was based in Johannesburg.
All the Rhodesian Mokes sold to civilians were painted Spruce green with black seats and black bumpers, so we decided to make sure this Moke was returned to it's former glory.
Having spent its first 60 years in two of the warmest, driest and salt-free country's on the planet, this car was already in very decent condition for a 60 year old car prior to its restoration, and is now a beautifully restored example.
We consulted with the South African mini Moke club to learn as much as we could about how these Mokes left the factory in Rhodesia over 60 years ago, and we are absolutely delighted with the end product we have created.
The engine has been stripped down and rebuilt, resulting in a very smooth drive and is very nippy considering it's only an 1100cc engine... but then again these Mokes are very light on their feet!
Whoever buys this car will own a 60 year old classic that has been meticulously restored, as is now pretty much a brand new car but with bags of history and class... and so much fun to drive!
The car will be fitted with the standard 10inch steelies painted in old english white with stainless steel centre caps just as the original car will have done when it left the factory.
All Import duty and tax has been paid with NOVA declaration completed. UK registration has been applied for.
I have videos of the restoration as well... please call me if interested and I will whatsapp them to you.
