Description
Mercedes 190D with a very interesting history.
Absolutely poverty spec, not even a radio. But alas…
This early example started life as the ‘consulate car’ for the British Embassy in Nairobi Kenya in 1984.
It then spent a very brief time with the U. K. special forces, before being transferred back to the U. K.
then B138LAO (private plate not included) was registered in 1985 and was sold through Mercedes Benz Carlisle to a private owner a school headmaster, who looked after her and serviced her at Mercedes Benz dealers religiously for the next 20 year’s. And was always taken on long trips, therefore not subjected to stop start motoring. (See pictures)
During the 3rd owners tenure she was a jolly good daily hack, and as we all know provided indomitable reliability.
Until 2004 when she was parked in a barn and the ensuing heavy snow fall the roof collapsed on to top, denting the roof (never been recorded) she sat propping up said barn for another 17years! So this really is a barn find in more ways than one!
She’s 40 years old and is just about to be tax, MOT, and ULEZ exempt. And I’ve been yacking around in her for 3 years without fault. She runs on WVO veggie oil as well as diesel.
Condition wise she’s pretty sound and straight (apart from roof) interior is time warp! No wear!
Engine and gearbox are perfect and still drives tight.
Diff is a bit noisy but has not got any worse during my tenure, and spare diff is included.
MOT’d until 24th July
She’s a little tank and good to go!
