Sunbeam S8 1950, Black, Blue badge, Matching numbers motorcycle with excellent originality, history etc. - This bike is not compiled from a box of bits as many are today - engine & gearbox numbers match, engine/ gearbox & frame numbers match the early buff original continuation logbook (1959 - 1974). Original front and rear number plates with suppliers name.
The cycle parts, headlamp & shrouds, petrol tank, front & rear mudguards, support brackets, centre boxes, toolbox, carb cover are all steel in very good condition, mostly refinished in gloss black. All threads are clean, no broken off bolts etc.
Chrome parts are either refinished, some new components together with some of the old originals in very good condition.
The wheels have very clean hubs, spokes very good, wheel rims very solid but have some minor surface rust.
New rubber items include, engine front buffers, front/ rear footrests, gear lever rubber, kickstart rubber, rim tapes, front and rear tyres / tubes.
Many original parts, chronometric speedo, red & green warning lamps, ignition switch & 2 keys, ammeter, control box & coil, clearhooters horn, alloy spark plug cover, alloy exhaust bends, alloy silencer etc.
Engine has been refurbished, new pistons, valves, clutch etc and is very clean, no broken fins to head and block. Stewart Engineering modified cylinder head vent cover with outlet.
Gearbox requires new kickstart shaft and gear change shaft as both splines have seen better days, new gear change lever is included.
Both engine and gearbox are out of the frame
Rear worm drive is complete, and fitted in the frame, as is the rear suspension.
Items of note that are required include, seat, headlamp glass & rim, steering damper, wiring loom & 2 into one exhaust pipe.
With all the work completed so far, this will be a very worthwhile and valuable addition to any bike collection, or individual.
Bike seems to have spent a lot of it’s time in Glasgow, and past owners, 59 - 74, include McManus, Walls, Moffat and Turbett.
