The Type RA featured as a spin off from the WRX classic since the cars inception in 1992. Standing from race altered, these were lighter than the usual WRX and were often the cars used by rally teams to convert straight into competition cars. 1000 555 WRC limited were made in 1999 this being number 636. Unlike other RA’s, the WRC had electric windows and fog lights fitted. A unique change included the blue embossed front seats that matched that of the WRC car with the back seats remaining black. Usual RA features are present including the lower ratio 4. 44 FD gearbox, alloy bonnet and the unique to the Limited 555 blue front seats. These cars produced around 280bhp from the factory which is more than enough for most to tackle British roads. This RA was imported in 2003 but does not seem to have been converted to miles until 2006 by which time it had covered 46, 000 kms, putting the car at around 94, 000 miles. The car has the correct chassis code for this edition as well as the correct engine and gearbox.
In 2019 this car was taken off the road for a full ground up restoration. AT services who are well known for Subaru underbody restoration did a full bare metal restoration on the underside of this car including painting subframes, arms and fuel tank as well as having all nuts, bolts and brackets plated. The car received cavity protection, full underside priming and blue top coat. The engine had a ground up rebuild in May 2023 by DM Motorsport to factory specification but with the addition of Wiseco forged pistons, Manley rods, ACL Race main bearings, Mahle big end bearings, RCM head studs and nitride crank as well as full Subaru gasket kit to ensure reliability. The block and heads were also refaced along with honed bores and recut valve seats. The car has also just received a full body respray so the whole thing presents in excellent condition. The only non-factory items on the car are the stainless exhaust system, new KYB AGX suspension with adjustable shocks, the best chosen replacement when restoring these cars, full poly bush kit, aftermarket radio and boost gauge. The car has also had a new full set of tyres fitted, calipers refurbished and the wheels painted.
As you would imagine it’s a joy to drive giving perfect response to the driver and still offering that feel of epic mechanical grip from the AWD drive system. With the low ratio gearbox it really cracks on through the gears. There are no issues to report. The car is offered for sale with history including paperwork such as engine build receipt as well as a digital album of restoration photos including the underside work and engine rebuild. A no expense spared restoration. One of the last classic shape limited edition specials of the Impreza and perfect for the collector or to be enjoyed for B-road blasts on weekends.
