Hello everyone!
I am selling today a 1986 Volkswagen Type 2 "T3" (which in the UK was known as the T25 i believe), its a 6 seater double cabin, finished in dark green.
Originally from Germany, it was imported to Portugal in 1996.
It has a factory 1600cc turbo diesel making a whopping 69bhp, which is the same as the early VW Passat i believe, but its fitted sideways with a special sump to the squeeze into the back of the cargo tray.
Engine was fully rebuilt a recently, about 2/ 3 years ago, from what i can remember, it had:
- New piston rings, new gaskets and oil seals, new cylinder head (valves, seats, springs it was fully overhauled), new small & big end bearings, nem clutch assembly, new water hoses, new radiator, new starter motor, overhauled injector pump, new water pump, new turbo, etc..
Odometer reads close to 60. 000kms, most likely 160. 000kms.
Brakes:
- New discs & pads at the front, overhauled calipers, rear brake drum shoes and springs replaced, new cylinders... brakes well all things considered!
Gearbox:
It runs and drives ok, but it will need checking in the future (we can do it here as part of the sale or the agreement, as it needs to be overhauled). I believe it has a bent selector, if you go up gear it all goes well, but if you need to go down from 5th to 4th, you need to go to 3rd and then 4th. No leaks or odd noises, but it does need looking into.
Bodywork:
It was fully stripped 4 or 5 years ago, it went to bare metal and brought back from the ground up. All rust cleared and repaired where it needed. Fully painted afterwards in dark green and undersealed to ensure its longevity. Rear cargo tray has a custom made canvas, covered with a tailored rubber floor mat and the tailgate still retains its original folding step. It also has an interesting cargo hold that runs from side to side.
Needs no intervention and its rust free.
Interior:
Seats were reupholstered, same with the headlining and door cards, fairly complete and useable interior, everything works (like a proper older volkswagen), fairly original car all things considered i believe.
I dont think theres much to say, its rust free, it runs and drives fine, 6 seater, reliable and fuel efficient, classic Volkswagen Type 2 bus.
It needs a new set of rear lights, 2 rear wheel hub caps and the gearbox needs overhauling.
