Description
We bought the TC in June 2018, this was the 6th TC we looked at before we were satisfied with the car.
This was manufactured 22nd june 1948.
Earlier in it’s life it was exported to Illinois ( Uk reg KMU 240]
Whilst there the TC had a complete rebuild from the ground up to an high detail with all the correct period fixings including a powder coated chassis.
It appears this was done as a show piece for a private car collection in about 2000.
The car then went to a car collector in Paris and then on to a private car collection in Ahnsen Germany , which is where we purchased the car from two brothers (MR Straug & Straug).
Once we had all the correct paper work and a proof from the MG owners club I imported the car back to the Uk and the DVLA issued a new reg YXS 647.
The condition of the car can only be described as excellent.
It had basically stood still since its rebuild in the USA.
We gave the car a MOT and stated to use it. We found all was well except for a few loose bolts. We then updated the car for modern use.
We removed the engine and had a crank shaft seal kit fitted by Pete Edney MG specialist and before we refitted the engine a Ford sierra T9 5 speed gear box using HiGear conversion kit with no change to the look of the car and a cruising speed of 60 mph at 3000 rpm. And Speedo sent to Speedogragh Richfield for gearing correction.
Other modifications were
Negative earth
High level LED tail/ break and indicators ( BMW motorbike, see photos )
4 branch stainless steel tubular manifold ( increase torque for 5th gear)
High torque stater motor
Canister oil filter in original copy oil housing c/ w braiding hoses.
Dynamator( alternater that looks like a original dynamo)
Alvin updated brakes.
Rear axle bearings with upgraded seal kit.
Stainless steel folding low level rack.
All these mods are reversible as car is supplied with all original parts.
There is also a Bluemel Brooklands wheel which has been leather covered.
This makes the car to use safely with modern traffic and road conditions.
This is now a MG TC of a very high standard that is useable.
My wife and I have covered 3500 miles since we owned the TC and the only breakdown has been a puncture, but soon fixed and on our way.
All these mods make the TC a user friendly car with trouble free motoring. Completely rebuilt car from the ground up to a very high standard complete with period fixings and sensible modifications. C/ W mohair hood and tonneau cover with brass zips in matching dark green.
