Description
For sale is my matching numbers Triumph Bonneville Special T140D which I've owned for 3 years with the V5 in my name, this is a UK bike, not an import. I bought it off a friend who owned it for years so it's kind of been in the family for a long time. When I bought the bike it was in great original condition but was starting to show its age so I decided a full nut and bolt restoration was required to bring it up to the standard that you see now. - see photo of the frame and wheels repainted and awaiting the engine installation with pipe lagging to stop any chipping of the frame
Below is a list of the work done:
The bike was totally dismantled and the frame stripped to bare metal and resprayed with primer and two pack paint.
The wiring harness has been thoroughly checked, it has a Lucas electronic ignition and everything works perfectly
The tank is the original paint and is in excellent condition apart from a couple of stone chips which I've tried to show in the photos.
The engine had an oil leak from the front push rod tube so the head was removed, the bore was found to be in excellent unworn condition and still on standard bore so it was honed, new rings were fitted and then reassembled with a new copper head gasket
Valves lapped in and new valve springs fitted
Carburettors stripped, cleaned and reset, it now ticks over perfectly at 1100rpm
New clutch plates and primary drive chain
Forks stripped and new stanchions and seals fitted
New front brake disc and pads front and back
New Hagon shock absorbers
New Avon Road riders
New battery
New chain and sprockets
New two into one down pipes and brackets along with a new short peashooter silencer
Leicester mag wheels were stripped, polished and resprayed
New seat
It starts easily and is super reliable with no rattles, smoke, oil leaks or knocks. Everything works exactly as it should, the gear box is really smooth and positive and the lights, indicators, dip switch, horn, kill switch, idiot lights etc. are all perfect. Speedo and tacho work perfectly. It pulls well and happily keeps up with modern traffic, the brakes are excellent and the bike handles really well. All round it looks, rides and sounds fantastic and is a joy to ride and own. A walk around video of the bike running and revving is available by clicking on the link below. In addition as requested there's a virtual ride video of the bike out on the road. Sensible offers considered.
Thanks for looking

Please copy and paste paste the links into your browser to viewWhen these came out in 1979 I was 15 and a mate's brother bought one brand new. Me and my mates couldn't believe it and we all went round and admired it. There were 4 of us who went to see it and all of us have owned T140Ds since that day. To me the T140D is the best oil in frame Bonneville, Lester mags, the iconic paint job and tank badge, disc brakes that actually work, electronic ignition, two into one pipe etc. etc. this is the final version with a great lineage. As you can see on the two videos attached this one looks fantastic, starts, rides and stops perfectly and always draws admiring looks either on the road or when you pull up. Sadly it's up for sale as I've recently had a knee operation and kick starting old classics is no longer for me.
