Super Samuri’s were created in period by legendary tuner Spike Anderson who, via his Samuri Motor Co. converted some 73 Datsun 240Z’s and 4 260Z’s to either racing or fast road specification. His most famous car “Big Sam” competed and won in the Modsports series (a forerunner to BTCC) in the hands of Win Percy beating works Porsche 911’s along the way.
The 260Z 2+2 Super Samuri is the rarest of the breed, believed to be just 2 ever built and only a total of 44 260Z 2+2’s registered on UK roads.
GED 220N was fitted in period with the larger 2. 8 litre engine which is far superior for tuning to the standard 2. 6. It has 4 pot callipers and vented discs, lowered uprated suspension, Wolfrace wheels with fatter tyres, triple weber carbs, modified gas flowed head, 6 branch exhaust and the Samuri body kit – all period correct.
The car was subject to a complete nut and bolt restoration in 2014 by specialists Z-Farm in Yorkshire with all new or rebuilt mechanicals, refurbished interior and bare metal respray all to the original Super Samuri specification.
The car has since covered under 1, 500 dry miles and the paintwork still presents as immaculate both on top and underneath. The interior is equally stunning with just a few minor blemishes.
The car performs in keeping with its condition. In 2022 it was rolling road tuned resulting in an output of almost 220bhp and a similar level of torque, sufficient for a 0 to 60 time of around 6 seconds. With the Samuri modifications intact, the roadholding and braking are up to the performance. It has just passed its MOT with no advisories plus had an oil and filter service. This is a very useable classic with no vices and completely up together. It looks stunning, sounds and drives like a road race car, is the rarest of Z models and can only appreciate in value. The cost of a restoration to the standard in which this car is presented would be £60k to £80k (not including the donor car) so the asking price represents remarkable value for money.
Trailer delivery can be made to a mainland UK address if required. I have a 1962 Alfa Romeo rally car with which I take part in classic rallies. I purchased the 260Z with the intention to use it for rallying as well. There are a number of 240 and 260Z's already on the scene but the 260 appeals more as it has a larger boot space for all the rally paraphernalia. However, this car is so good, and rare, that I cannot bring myself to convert it to rally use. I have had the car for over two years and spent the time running it in properly, sorting out the tuning and other some minor items associated with lack of use. It now runs as intended and is the best I can make it, ready for either a collector or Japanese car enthusiast. I am sure there is not a better Z car out there.
