Description
Vintage camper van from 1961 FBW Samba bus A unique opportunity to acquire a one-off Samba bus with manual suicide doors, countless windows (39 windows plus 12 sliding windows) and a fabulous "shark" design.
This 1961 camper van, unique in every respect, is for sale. It is a genuine Swiss vehicle from FBW. This bus was specially built for the Alpine pass tour and is therefore very narrow and has the steering wheel on the right-hand side so that the driver always has a direct view of the abyss. The driver and passenger windows can be opened with a crank, just like in a car. You can also open the 12 sliding windows all round for good ventilation and draught. There are also 2 large roof hatches and an extremely powerful fresh air fan in the front. The front windows are made of tinted glass to reduce the amount of sunlight reaching the driver and front passenger. The upper windows are also tinted. All in all, the "Samba" bus with its countless windows can easily compete with the cult VW Bus T1 Samba, especially in terms of quality and price. The overall condition of the camper van is excellent and the mileage of 593, 000 km is absolutely nothing for this bus with an 11-litre capacity and mid-engine.
The FBW has undergone 60 years of maintenance and care in Switzerland, which is something to be proud of. The FBW Club in Switzerland has a huge stock of spare parts for all eventualities and the club aims to keep all FBW vehicles on the road for a very long time to come.
There is a very interesting film about this on youtube: " The Postbus - Documentary by NZZ " The camper is now definitely equipped for the next 60 years and for the next 500, 000 km mileage. The vehicle comes with complete documentation, from the handwritten data sheet to all technical manuals with maintenance instructions and books about Swiss postal buses, in which this bus is of course listed and described.
Even the cost breakdown for the bus from 1961 is available: the bus cost a whole 172, 635 Swiss francs in 1961 The unique Swiss underfloor engine and the semi-automatic torque converter gearbox were installed in many FBW buses and have proved their worth - right up to the present day! The nice little camping bus is shifted entirely without a clutch. There is no need for a clutch, so the driver can always use his left foot to operate the air horn or turn the lights up and down without interruption. Power steering? Of course. While the gearbox and engine have been installed in countless FBW vehicles, this bus only exists once in exactly this form and in this design: This bus is "The crowning glory of shark design" - a one-off! This is exactly how this bus is described in the book: Haifisch Postautos by Jürg Biegger. Tyres: 6 x Michelin 12 R 225 as good as new The Büssle is registered as a motorhome with an H licence plate for 7 people.
It has 2 large double beds and thus 4 - 6 sleeping places. The entire camping equipment is extremely robust and high quality and technically almost up to date. On ebay you will also find the offer with a lot of further information and with 100 photos of the vehicle. The camper is registered and ready to go; get in and drive off - provided the driver has a driving licence for vehicles over 7. 5 tonnes.
