The Appeal
You can just imagine the scenes now, as you cruise down the south coast of France in this beautiful Rolls-Royce Corniche. With the roof up you have a stunning classic, but when the electric roof is retracted, you’ll have the wind in your hair, and some of the best views the world has to offer.
Who wouldn’t want a car that will enable all of that?
The History and Paperwork
- From the factory, this car travels overseas to Germany
- The first stamp in the service book is from Dusseldorf with the subsequent stamps from Hamburg
- From Hamburg, it then travels to Flensburg
- For its last stamped service in 2016, it appears to have crossed the border into Switzerland
- In 2016 the odometer read just under 86,000 kilometres, and today it reads a little over that 86,000 km mark
- This shows that the car has had little use in the last few years and is ready to get out and about again
- This information can be found within the leather bound Rolls-Royce binder
- Within this, there are also some original handbooks
- It has come into this country recently
- Passing its MOT in August of this year with no advisories it is ready for the road
- Although historic invoices are not present, there is one large modern bill
- Split over 4 pages it documents a lot of recent work
- Pictures of this can be found within the gallery, it is well worth a read
The Interior
- Lovely cream leather
- Excellent interior hood condition
- Four luxurious seats
- Lots of wood trim
Stepping inside the interior of this Corniche is an immense sense of occasion. The smell of leather and sight of the veneers is a something that you seldom find on a modern vehicle. Looked after well by its previous owners the interior is in lovely condition.
The cabin is filled with the best hides that Rolls-Royce could have found back in 1985. Thanks to this hard-wearing natural material the seats are all presented in lovely condition. Normally you might expect to see some bolster wear or marking to the light leather for a car of this age, but these seats are very clean indeed. A nice little feature of the front seats is the pull-out armrests from the bolsters, a very neat bit of design.
Below the seats, there is a very nice light brown carpet fitted to the cabin. With matching cream piping around the edges these carpets make the cabin feel even neater.
It is not only the seats that are trimmed with this beautiful leather, other areas, such as the lower dash and door cards are alsogiven the same treatment. The lower dash is void of any nasty marks or damage.
Both of the door cards are pieces of art in their own right. The woodwork is in amazing condition adding another level to this interior that sets it apart from others. Below the cappings, you’ll find a large leather section with the armrest and controls for the windows, electric mirrors, and the door lock. There are some small marks on the door cards, but these do not warrant any type of intervention at this point.
Towards the rear, the boot is very large with more than enough space to put all of your luggage in for those long drives down to the South of France or wherever else you wish to holiday with this car. There is also a CD multichanger back there along with a toolkit.
Inside this Corniche is in wonderful condition and is just waiting for you to hop on in and take it for a long drive out with that marvellous top down.
The Exterior
- Excellent blue bodywork
- The hood has just had some attention
- Well preserved
- Wears it Spirit of Ecstasy with pride
Your jaw will drop when you set eyes on this Corniche. Other cars on the road look good, but the Rolls-Royce Corniche looks very impressive. With its twin headlights and large vertical chrome grille, this example is not only incredible but also instantly recognisable as a Rolls-Royce product.
Finished in this stunning deep blue colour this Rolls-Royce looks the part that’s for sure, and when you match the dark paintwork with the light roof it comes alive. Across the car, the paintwork is in amazing condition returning a deep reflection. You will find a few minor areas of paint that aren’t as good as the rest, but the car is nearly 40 years old, so a few marks are expected.
Recently the light cream roof has had some work. The fabric has been partial to a little bit of love that has resulted in an excellent finish. Some of the deeper cracks and marks from the 40 years on the road have been filled in and now it looks as good as new.
With the press of a button, this roof will elegantly raise and then fold neatly behind the rear seats. This can then be covered with the accompanying tonneau cover, with the tonneau installed you have a very sleek looking large convertible.
There are a lot of small areas on the exterior that show how well this car has been looked after. Upfront, the two fog lights still retain their Lucas covers which are in great condition. Set between the twin headlights you’ll find a delicate chromed wiper blade, still with its bristle in perfect condition. Once again small details, but they are very important to show how the car has been looked after.
Overall, the exterior of this Corniche is in amazing condition. Wherever you wish to park this car it will always garner a few admiring looks. Everyone will love to see this car as it drives on by.
The Mechanics
- 6.75l V8 fitted
- Large recent invoice for mechanical work
- Starts on the button
This car might look amazing, and have an interior to die for, but it is the driving characteristics where a Rolls-Royce comes into its own.
Driving one of these old Rolls-Royce’s is what it must feel like to ride a magic carpet along the motorway. Wafting along the road at 70mph must be experienced and it makes for an almighty drive.
The large invoice shows that a service was completed, along with work to the hydraulic hoses, a replacement lower ball joint, 4 new Avon Turbosteel tyres, a new exhaust mount, a new air conditioning system was fitted, and the Solex carburettors were replaced in favour of SU’s.
All of this work makes for a great runner. As such the car started on the button for the photoshoot pulling into place without complaining.
This should be an excellent mechanical addition to your collection, so don’t miss out on this opportunity.
Summary
Who doesn’t like the romantic idea of driving this car along the French Riviera looking out over the bonnet with the Spirit of Ecstasy guiding your way?
Thanks to the fact that this example is in amazing condition overall then it’s a bit of a no brainer. Just think about all of the life long memories that you can make from behind the steering wheel of this elegant British classic.
