The Appeal
Offering family-hauling practicality with sports car performance and Porsche provenance, the first-generation Cayenne - along with the 986 Boxster - is often cited as being one of the vehicles that ‘saved’ Porsche, and the Turbo model in particular (as seen here) remains eminently desirable to this day, and really is fun for all the family!
Presented in excellent condition throughout both aesthetically and mechanically, this early Cayenne Turbo 4.5 has evidently lived a charmed life, and remains in such a condition that defies both its age and indicated mileage. If you’re in need of a family ‘bus’ that can still put a smile on your face when pressing on, this is just the ticket…
History/Paperwork
- V5, showing five former keepers
- Full OPC / Specialist service history
- Good documentation and history
- Impressively clean MoT history
First registered in March 2004, this first-generation, gunmetal-over-black, pre-facelift example boasts a strong list of factory-fitted optional extras, including the following items:
- 19” Cayenne design wheels
- Heated steering wheel
- Coloured Porsche crest wheel caps
- Memory seats
- BOSE audio
- Red brake callipers
- TV Module (analog)
- Smooth leather seats
- Aluminium interior trim package
- Front/rear anti-roll bar
In addition to the factory specification, the car benefits from an upgraded in-car entertainment system, boasting Android Auto / Apple CarPlay connectivity and an in-built reversing camera.
Looking back through the vehicle’s history, the service book is well-stamped with a mixture of Official Porsche Centre (OPC) and Porsche specialist stamps, with the most recent service taking place in 2017 at 69,016 miles, including a brake fluid change by Steve Bull specialist cars of Devizes, Wiltshire.
It should also be noted that this Cayenne’s MoT history is particularly impressive, largely comprising of clean passes with only one or two advisory items noted, along with two minor failures earlier on in its lifetime, simply for headlight aim and nails in tyres, suggesting that this example has been kept in good mechanical order throughout its lifetime.
The Interior
- Presents wonderfully
- BOSE sound system
- Upgraded infotainment
- No faults, issues or warning lights
On the inside, you’d be hard pushed to tell that this Cayenne Turbo is now knocking on the door of being 20 years old, such is its condition.
The smooth leather seats show only some light commensurate wear - most visible on the driver’s seat, naturally - and are all free of any rips, tears or damage to the covers.
Similarly, the headliner is taut and free from wear throughout, whilst the carpets are in an equally excellent condition.
Being particularly picky, there are some indentations / usage marks noted on the door cards and high-traffic areas, but this is to be expected from a vehicle of this age, and this level of wear is still significantly below what we’d expect to see at this mileage and age. There is also a small scuff/stain on the centre rear seat base.
It is also worth noting that all the original maintenance / emergency equipment remains with the vehicle, including the tire pressure hose.
All systems are working as Porsche intended, and the aftermarket infotainment system adds some modern connectivity to the cabin, making it ideal for long journeys or hands-free call making.
The Exterior
- Excellent condition
- Some very, very light wear to bumpers and high-traffic areas
- Matching new Michelin tyres
As per the cabin, the outside of this Cayenne Turbo 4.5 remains in excellent condition throughout, having evidently lived a charmed life and been taken good care of throughout its years.
The bodywork is free of any dents, scuffs or mis-aligned panels as far as we can see, and there is no known or recorded accident damage history for the vehicle.
Equally, the paintwork is in great shape throughout and still presents very well indeed, with only some light ‘ghost’ marks and scratches visible if you look super closely, though these may be remedied with a thorough DA / detailing of the paintwork.
Both headlights show some typical UV clouding/discolouration which plagued all Porsches of this era, though the nearside headlight is slightly worse. Again, this is nothing that can’t be remedied, and no mention of it was made on the recent MoT exam.
All four wheels - with matching nearly-new Michelin tyres, no less - are in great shape, with only a few minor marks visible and no sign of any major kerb rash or damage.
The Mechanicals
- 4.5-litre V8 engine
- Well serviced
- Drives and sounds “phenomenal”
Under the bonnet, the 4.5-litre engine looks to be in good visual health, though we’ll concede that the view is somewhat impaired by the various plastic ‘dress up’ covers fitted to the bay. Still, the intakes and the areas we can see all look to be in good order.
The vendor reports that the car drives without fault, issue or any unruly behaviour, and the noise and performance are exactly what you’d expect from a ‘Turbo’ badged Porsche.
Recently, the car has benefitted from attention to the braking system, with a new servo, vacuum pump and nearside rear ABS sensor being fitted.
The most recent MoT exam - dated 25 March 2022 - shows a clean first-time pass with no advisory items at 73,838 miles.
Summary
Presented in fantastic condition throughout, considerately upgraded and with a strong factory specification and colour combination, this is a wonderful example of a first-generation, pre-facelift Cayenne Turbo that is ready to be put to use as a fun-filled family runabout, or as the ideal practical GT car for weekend getaways.
