Highlights
- Low mileage, just 24,000 from new
- Two owners from new
- A very interesting engine layout
The Appeal
‘V’ shape engines always come with an even number of cylinders, right? Well, in the case of the VW Golf V5, that isn’t true. Produced in the early 2000s, it was the result of Volkswagen’s desire to create an engine sitting in between the powerful VR6 and more sedate inline-four. Pumping out around 150hp, that
mission was most certainly a success. An oddity in the motoring industry, this particular Golf V5 has been very well maintained having spent its
entire life in the hands of a single family. Since it first hit the road in 1999, it has covered less than 24,000 miles leaving it in excellent condition both inside and out. The so-called VR5 engine with its soft character should make for an excellent daily driving experience.

Summary
Traditionally, the Golf 4 may not be the most enthusing models to come from the German brand, though with the VR5 engine hidden under the bonnet, it surely provides a talking point for those in the know. This car has been preserved incredibly well throughout its 23 years thanks to the care and attention of a single family. As such, there’s no reason for this car not to be ready for many miles to come, proudly showing off what happens when you cut a cylinder off the infamous VR6 power plant.
