THE APPEAL
As up-and-coming modern classics go, the Range Rover P38a is one of the cars of the moment. With prices of Range Rover Classics hitting the stratosphere, enthusiasts are turning to the later models as the next big thing, and the most interesting P38s are now starting to command good money.
But so they should, as the model was the vehicle that truly marked Range Rover out as a luxury brand and took it away from its utilitarian roots. Terrific to drive, sumptuously equipped and with real presence, they’re a fabulous vehicle when properly sorted out and well-maintained.
This one comes with even greater appeal by virtue of being one of a run of ultra-luxurious models produced to mark Land Rover’s 50th anniversary in 1998. Originally, Land Rover intended to build just 50 examples of the special edition, all in Atlantis Blue. But thanks to high demand it’s believed at least 86 and maybe as many as 100 were produced, although only the first 50 included a Philips CARiN sat nav system – as good as obsolete today, but the ultimate in options back in 1998.
Presented in very good original condition and unrestored, Range Rover Vogue 50th number 18 represents a rare opportunity to get your hands on an especially collectable Range Rover derivative.

SUMMARY
This is a really smart, unusual and rare special edition P38 in a fabulous colour scheme, freshly serviced and good-to-go. The Atlantis Blue paintwork really suits it and the interior is delightfully opulent, while the rarity of the 50th Anniversary specification and the numbered brass plaque make this one of the most collectable P38 variants there is.
One to buy, use sparingly, put away and preserve, as its special edition status, glorious originality and fantastic equipment levels make it a solid future investment.
