- Lots of early history
- Rare chrome finish alloy wheels
THE APPEAL
Nineties Jaguars are good news at the moment, with lots of demand for the big saloon models thanks to their wonderful ride quality, delicate styling and all-round usability.
As the tired examples fall by the wayside, the good ones are really starting to stand out as useable, elegant and affordable classics that are still more than capable of holding their own in modern traffic.
This is one such example – an entry-level XJ6 but fitted with the big 4.0-litre engine and a few interesting extras, such as the factory option chrome alloys.
It’s a genuine low mileage car, too, with a comprehensive history.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
- Original service books and handbook
- Stacks of old MOTs and invoices
- Service book stamped to 67,999 miles
- Over £3,000 spent in past four years
- UK V5C
- MOT until January 28th 2023
The XJ6 was supplied new by Hadley Wood Motors of Barnet in October 1995 and went back there for servicing for the first four years of its life. After that, the car was maintained by an independent garage from 2000 to 2004, when it found its way back into the dealer network.
From 2004 to 2018, in long-term ownership, it was serviced by Grange Jaguar of Brentwood – a main dealership. The service book was last stamped less than 2,000 miles ago as the Jaguar was little-used during lockdown.

THE INTERIOR
- Rare half-leather trim
- Exceptionally presented
- Optional wood-rimmed wheel
- Very clean, smart and fresh
As the entry-level XJ6, this example is subtle and discreet. It has unusual (and exceptionally comfortable) half-leather seats with cloth inserts, and maple wood veneers.
It’s in fabulous overall condition. The headlining material has been pinned up in places, and there’s a superficial amount of wear to the driver’s seat side bolster, but these are very minor detractions on an otherwise excellent cabin.
THE EXTERIOR
- Rare Pewter Grey
- 16-inch chrome alloys
- Aftermarket ‘leaper’
- Excellent overall condition
The Jaguar looks really smart in Pewter Grey sitting on genuine factory option chrome-finish alloys – a £2,000 option in their day. The bodywork is very smartly presented with no obvious signs of rust.
There’s a very small area of paint deterioration on the bonnet where it has lost its shine, but it’s very minor. An aftermarket Jaguar ‘leaper’ has been fitted, along with a Witter towbar.

THE MECHANICS
- 4.0-litre straight six
- Automatic transmission
- Over £3,000 recently spent on mechanical parts and suspension
Jaguar’s AJ-16 engine is a wonderfully smooth and refined unit, renowned for its reliability and even power delivery. It works in tandem with a smooth four-speed auto transmission and is an absolute joy to experience, coupled to Jaguar’s infamous magic carpet ride.
The vendor reports that the car drives well with no known faults and is a very pleasant vehicle in which to travel.
It has been extremely well-maintained with recent coil springs and a full service at an independent garage at 70,383 miles.
