The Appeal
Produced by Daimler-Benz between 1984 to 1997, the W124 platform was the latest offering from Mercedes in the mid-sized luxury vehicle market and would go on to be incredibly well-received.
The W124 was designed during a crucial time in which economy, reliability, and durability were prized traits in motor vehicles, partially as means of competing with the latest Japanese cars. Today, this superb build quality is exemplified by a fair number of incredibly high-mileage W124 cars, that are still capable of rivaling modern equivalents.
This 300 E has also been very well preserved over the years, and no shows off an excellent finish both inside and out, along with fantastic mechanical health.
If you’re looking for a W124 to add to your collection, this 300 E would make the perfect addition.

The History and Paperwork
- MOT until March 2023
- Excellent service history
- 5 former keepers
- Original handbooks included
- V5C document present
This 300 E has been enjoyed by just 5 former keepers. The car had a gauge cluster change due to the original being faulty on the 13/08/2003 at 79’107, the gauge cluster was carried out officially by the Mercedes Benz Main dealer and is stamped in the service book to confirm. As the speedo is currently showing just over 47,000 miles the car has done 126,000 miles from new.
As shown by the included service booklet, the vehicle has been well cared for over the years, receiving regular servicing and the expected consumables.
As shown by the included service booklet, the vehicle has been well cared for over the years, receiving regular servicing and the expected consumables.
Included alongside the service booklet is the rest of the original booklet pack, along with previous MOT certificates and the V5C document. Although the vehicle has seemingly required rather little over the years, there is also a collection of invoices detailing previous parts and labour.
Alongside the paperwork, there is also a small collection of spare parts to be included with the vehicle. The buyer will receive the original steering wheel, a passenger side headlight, a set of rear lights, a spare alternator, front indicator units, and various additional components.
The Interior
- Cloth interior
- Luisi 3-spoke steering wheel
- Wooden trim details
- Excellent condition
- Kenwood head unit
Although perhaps not the most glamorous option back in the day, the cloth interior of this 300 E has aged beautifully and is packed with charm. The patterned seats and door card inserts compliment wooden trim details beautifully, providing a very tasteful and classy combination. In true W124 fashion, there’s also plenty of space for passengers to enjoy, along with a generous-sized boot.
As you may expect with the age of the vehicle, the interior does of course show various signs of age. Perhaps most notable is minor wear to the driver’s seat, and a repair patch to the side bolster. That being said, the seat remains as functional as ever and shows fewer signs of its age than typically seen.
Having likely seen far less use throughout the vehicle’s life, the passenger seats present themselves with hardly any signs of wear and look superb for their age. The only noticeable defect can be found with the rear right passenger’s headrest, which seemingly shows staining of some kind. However, this could likely be remedied by a professional’s touch or simply replaced for not too much money at all.
Carpeting throughout the vehicle presents itself well, as do all 4 door cards and the headlining, with only minor signs of age noticeable upon close inspection. The dashboard, centre console, and all associated trim follow suit, with seemingly only minor cracking to the wooden trim, and slight wear to the gear selector.
The vehicle is currently fitted with a 3-spoke Luisi steering wheel, which actually pairs quite well with the wooden trim throughout the car. However, if purity is desired, the original Mercedes-Benz wheel is included with the vehicle.
The Exterior
- Smoke Silver metallic paintwork
- Refurbished 500 E wheels
- Previously partially resprayed
- Excellent condition
- Stubby aerial
This 300 E looks absolutely gorgeous for its age, still offering plenty of shine to the metallic paintwork and showing off a mostly original finish. Although the vehicle hasn’t been restored previously, this Mercedes has received two new front wings, and paintwork down either side of the vehicle to blend the new wings.
As the vehicle is now 32 years old, there are of course minor imperfections to note. Keen eyes will spot a range of minor marks along the body, with the majority found towards the front end as expected. A great deal of these would benefit from a dash of TLC, and seemingly don’t detract from the overall finish all that much.
Similarly, minor signs of age can be found with exterior trim pieces, such as a loose wing indicator, and minor damage to the front chrome grille. Although replacement grilles are available online, the current keeper has opted to retain the original grille, for both quality and originality purposes.
There is also notable scuffing and marks on the front bumper and a crack in the passenger headlight. However, the current keeper has sourced an original light in excellent condition, that can serve as a replacement for the damaged unit.
This 300 E also shows off a refurbished set of alloys, from a 500 E. Although rather subtle, these wider wheels fill the arches better, leaving the vehicle with a very tasteful stance. The wheels are in excellent condition and are wrapped in a set of Continental tyres with plenty of tread left to enjoy.
Overall, this 300 E presents itself very well for its age, and will no doubt look the part in any collection.
