The Appeal
Enjoying a production run from 1948 all the way to 1971, the Morris Minor, or “Moggie” was the first British car to sell more than 1,000,000 units and today forms an essential part of the fabric our national identity.
Designed by the genius Alec Issigonis, the Minor was a revolutionary vehicle in its day and the numerous innovations it brought to the small family car still make for a fine driving experience in 2023.
The overarching design principles of maximising interior space and creating a pleasing driving experience were achieved by the incorporation of clever features such as independent front torsion bar suspension, rack and pinion steering, and a unibody construction.
The 1966 model offered here represents the final iteration of the Morris Minor 1000 and it offers significant improvements over its predecessors. An increased capacity engine and stronger gearbox improved the performance and reliability of the Minor, whilst exterior lighting was improved along with a raft of improvements to the interior.
This particular Minor has been the beneficiary of significant mechanical attention and improvement in recent years, including the sensible front disc brake conversion, further adding to this car’s daily practicality. Now ready to motor on for another 60 years, this is a fine mechanically sorted Minor which is sure to bring its next owner plenty of joy.

- Aftermarket battery condition indicator (functioning) and oil pressure gauge (non-functioning) fitted by prior owner
Contrasting beautifully with its Old English White exterior, the recently retrimmed interior of this Moggie truly is a lovely place to be. Fitted with an interior by the well-regarded company Newton Commercial, this Minor also has the added benefit of upgraded reclining seats at the front. Well matched to the original aspects of the interior, these front seats provide the driver and passenger with added comfort and practicality beyond the original factory items.
The carpets also present, as one would expect, in excellent condition and the recent retrim even extends to the boot compartment.
Other improvements to the interior include a new column stalk control and modern seatbelts.
The Exterior
- Presented in its original colour of Old English White with a red coachline
- Recent replacement of some external chrome, including new ‘hockey sticks’ and top moulding chrome, rear lights, wing mirrors and bumper overriders
- Halogen headlamp upgrade
- Wider Morris Minor van wheel fitment with relatively fresh tyres with excellent tread
Looking every part the archetypal English classic in Old English White, the immediately recognisable Morris Minor is absolutely charming.
Under its current ownership this Minor has benefited from a number of exterior improvements. These include the replacement of various external brightwork components, such as new bumper overriders, rear light clusters and the frontal ‘hockey sticks’. The result is to lift the overall appearance of the car and the fresh chrome dazzles beautifully in the sunlight.
The external panels of the Morris all look to be very straight, without any clear evidence of significant damage or corrosion. In areas the paint is starting to show its age and looks to have been touched up in a few places, giving the new owner the opportunity to improve the paintwork or simply enjoy her as is.
The Moggie also sits on Morris Minor van wheels which are of slightly bigger width than those fitted to the standard car. The vendor reports that this change has resulted in the car feeling very much more planted whilst out on the road.
The Mechanics
- Under current ownership mechanical upgrades include reconditioned gearbox fitment, brake disc servo fitment, electronic ignition, and replacement alternator.
- Under prior ownership recent work has included new water pump, radiator, hoses, and battery
- Waxoyled under current and previous ownership and reported to be in excellent structural condition
- Recent service in past few months
As one would expect, this Moggie is reported to start keenly on its first attempt and perform excellently whilst out on the road. The vendor reports that with its new servo-assisted disc brakes at the front the car can ‘stop on a dime’ and that cornering stability has been significantly improved with the fitment of the aforementioned wider tyres.
During a recent service the car was fully appraised and reported to be in all round excellent structural condition and, on reviewing the photographs of the underside of the car, this would certainly appear to be the case.
Summary
A charming example of the classic and lovable Morris Minor 1000. This particular example, benefiting from a number of choice mechanical upgrades and a beautiful new interior, is now ready to set off on its new adventures with a characteristic parp!
