The History
Presented for sale is this remarkable and rare cast aluminium sign. Representing Ferrari's iconic 'Cavallino Rampante' (literally "little prancing horse"), it's a highly collectible piece of automotive and motorsport memorabilia. We're told by the vendor that it was originally a display piece at Ferrari's headquarters in Maranello, adorning the walls during the 1990s. Beautifully finished with black paint, we think this would be a perfect adornment for any Ferrari fan's garage or office.
The history of the symbol itself is intriguing – the prancing horse was the symbol of Italian WW1 flying ace Francesco Baracca. Francesco's mother, Countess Baracca, suggested to Enzo Ferrari that he adopt the symbol for his racing team and, from the early 1930s, it was adopted as the symbol of Scuderia Ferrari. Over time the symbol was refined slightly and the yellow shield background added in honour of Modena and the rest is history.
