BACKGROUND
It has been said that stepping into the seat of a Lexus is the closest many people get to the experience of being in a private jet.
The Lexus LS is a full-size luxury sedan that serves as the flagship model of Lexus. Four generations of the V8-powered, rear-wheel drive Lexus LS have been produced to date. It’s recognized as one of the most reliable vehicles ever built, and its cabin is regarded among the quietest of luxury cars.
This top of the range 2009 Lexus 460 SE-L is finished in rare Sienna Red with a Lexus Grey Leather interior. It’s equipped with a 4.6 litre engine which powers the rear wheels into producing 380bhp, delivered smoothly by way of the first production eight-speed automatic gearbox. It accelerates to 62mph in a far from sloppy 5.7 seconds.
HISTORY
The car was maintained at both Edgeware Road and Lexus Tunbridge Wells before being sold again by Edgeware Road in April 2013. Maintenance then moved to Lexus Guildford who maintained the car with 7 services through May 2019 to 136,000 miles. The last service was at Wheatsheaf garage (specialists in Motorsport and recommended by the Vintage Car Club) in July 2020 at 147,000 miles.
The current owner acquired the car in May 2021. The plan being to return to the UK for his work. However, in that short period of time he has since been asked to return overseas for another position so his short but very enjoyable time with the car has come to a rather abrupt end, and now it must find a new home.
Upon ownership he had the car fully inspected by a local garage to determine its condition. It came back with a full bill of health, but in anticipation of some extensive road journeys ahead, the owner had four new Avon tyres fitted.
This fine example of Lexus engineering has now covered only 151,000mls and includes a service book with 12 Lexus stamps. The owner reports the car drives like a dream.
PAPERWORK
Having had the car for such a short period, the V5 still hasn’t been updated with his details and shows 4 owners from new.
The car comes with 2 keys and includes the owner’s manual, navigation system manual, quick guide and the all-important service book.
The MOT expires in November 2021.
INTERIOR
The sumptuous, high quality interior presents well. The wood trim is in excellent condition and all the dials and switchgear are in good order.
The owner confirms all the electrics perform as they should and include a power open/close boot lid, reverse camera, navigation system, semi-aniline leather interior, and heated/cooled power memory front seats. This model features the Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) and the Adaptive Variable Air Suspension.
Further options include the sunroof - a fully operational glass roof with a slide and tilt option (known as a moonroof), rear electric blinds, rear entertainment and adjustable heated and ventilated rear seating.
The door trim panels and the carpet are in very good order along with the grey leather seats. The driver’s seat does exhibit some wear with very minimal cracking to the leather but this should respond well to some polishing. Otherwise, there are no rips, stains or issues with the seat stitching, the headlining is all intact and the rear includes vanity mirrors along with a smart drop-down DVD screen. There is some wear to the drivers mat and a stickler might think about replacing it at some point.
There is a full-size alloy wheel with a tyre showing over 5mm tread depth in the boot. There is a full set of tools along with the locking wheel nut.
EXTERIOR
The car has obviously been well maintained and other than a few light scratches (which would possibly polish out) the overall body is in good condition.
There are some minor stone chips to the front and light scratches, but no more than to be expected on a car of this age and mileage. There is a slight scuff on the near side rear wheel arch as illustrated in the photographs. Overall, the car looks great in Sienna Red which the owner suggests is a rare colour for these models. The panels are all in line and the doors shut perfectly as you would expect from a Lexus.
The car has 19” alloys and although in relatively good condition, would benefit from some restoration. The owner has arranged a refurbishment for mid-July.
MECHANICS
The only downside to having cars this luxurious is that you rarely want to get out of them, hence the mileage. However, it’s reassuring to know that this car has been well looked after, receiving a full set of stamps from its early life.
Looking under the bonnet there isn’t much to see as the engine is housed away under a cover, to stop idle or untrained hands getting anywhere near it. Perhaps that’s why these cars come top of all the reliability lists.
THE APPEAL
This is an impressive executive limousine, with ample power, responsive driving characteristics, and an impressive set of options to make even the most arduous drive effortless.
While it’s done its fair share of miles on the road, it reportedly still runs like a Swiss watch. It’s going to suit anyone that likes to travel in comfort, particularly if you frequently carry passengers, and like them to arrive feeling fresher than when they left.
