Highlights
- Custom built by Trike Design in South Wales
- Based upon Harley Davidson’s 883 V-twin cruiser
- Only two former keepers and a little over 10,000 miles covered from new
The Appeal
Offering all the joys of motorcycling but with the added accessibility afforded by 3 wheels rather than 2, trikes such as this Harley make the freedom of motorcycling available to many more people than otherwise would be able or happy to ride a conventional bike.
Based on a 2017 Harley Davidson 883, this trike was expertly built by 3-wheeled specialist Trike Design in South Wales. Having been used very sparingly, it is presented in excellent condition, ready to hit the road once more.
The History and Paperwork
- Acquired by the vendor in 2020 from an independent specialist
- 2 former owners
- Stored in a garage when not in use
- Apparently has part specialist service history
- 10,150 miles from new
The Condition
- Professionally converted to a trike
- Very good paint and brightwork
- Double seat included
As a 2017 model that has covered few miles, this Harley Davidson is in very good condition.
Much of the frame is exposed, more so than a standard motorcycle, with the tubular chassis at the rear and the quality of the paint finish appears very good indeed. The tank and mudguards are finished in a metallic blue that perfectly offsets the gloss black frame.
The vendor is unable to see any blemishes anywhere on the trike and while we’re sure you’ll find the odd stone chip if you look closely enough, we couldn’t discern any excessive wear or damage anywhere on the trike.
The seat looks to be in good condition and the trike is also supplied with a twin seat so you can take a passenger with you. Typical of a Harley, there is a great deal of chrome on this trike, all of which is really smart with no signs of pitting we could see. The same goes for all of the polished aluminium parts which all seem to be in fine shape.
The large alloy wheels at the rear really make a statement and are more akin to what you’d see on a car rather than a motorcycle. With such wide tyres, these give the trike excellent traction and stability, as well as contributing enormously to its purposeful stance. The alloys are in really good shape and we are informed that plenty of tread remains on the tyres. The front wheel will be more familiar to motorcyclists and we understand that it and its tyre are in excellent order.
It also features various pouches, providing useful storage and harking back to the accessories fitted to early Harley Davidsons.
The Mechanics
- 883cc V-twin
- Starts, runs and rides really well
The vendor informs us that the Harley starts, runs and rides brilliantly. Out on the road, the symmetrical wheelbase provides greater stability than a sidecar outfit, inspiring confidence in the bike and prompting the rider to push that 883cc V-twin a little harder.
Speaking of the engine, the twin-cylinder Harley Davidson engine is a staple of the marque, providing excellent torque in the lower rev range and a percussive sound track. This example hasn’t done much work and so starts and runs exactly as you would expect of a fairly new bike.
Summary
Trikes have long proved themselves an integral part of the motorcycling scene and this Harley Davidson has to be one of the best ways to get around on three wheels.
With so few miles on the clock and having been looked after carefully by its owners, this 883 trike would make a great addition to any trike, bike or indeed car collection and is sure to attract attention wherever you take it.
