The Appeal
Not many companies are able to offer the combination of luxury and motorsport heritage that Bentley can. With a history that goes back to the early days of motorsport, the flying ‘B’ has the kind of cachet that most brands would love to possess.
This second generation Continental GTC follows neatly in path well-trodden by Bentley, offering a smooth amalgamation of opulence, quality and vast wells of power. With the twin-turbo V8 drivetrain and a smart specification, it offers the kind of all-round ability that would make it a fantastic addition to any garage.
The History and Paperwork
- 2016 model year car (2nd generation)
- German registration, EU import documentation
- Two year TUV certification
- 42,143Km indicated
- Owner’s handbooks included
- Already imported into the Netherlands, import duties and VAT are fully paid
The Interior
- Cream and dark blue leather upholstery
- Electrically operated, heated and cooled front seats with three-memory function
- Dual zone air conditioning / climate control
- Auto headlights and daytime running lights
- Parking sensors with reversing camera
- Electric windows and door mirrors
- Touchscreen with radio, CD, navigation and phone connection
With individual seating for four – and plenty of room for all – the GTC makes for a wonderful grand tourer. Add to that the high spec and generous boot space and you have the perfect vehicle for galloping across continents in hushed splendour.
The two-tone leather, with contrast stitching and embroidered headrests, is in very nice condition with minimal signs of wear and tear. This is complemented by black carpets and floor mats which present well, with no evidence we could see of damage or staining.
Looking at the controls and switchgear, everything looks in very fine order, with only minor blemishes and signs of use. This is neatly contrasted with very smart, dark wood veneer, which shows no signs of cracking, UV damage or delamination.
The Exterior
- White paintwork
- Handsome external brightwork
- Electrically operated dark blue fabric roof
- Original six-spoke wheels
Not many cars can pull off white with aplomb, but it really does work on the GTC. It highlights the lines and volumes of the car nicely, accentuating those meaty rear haunches. All of the paint appears to be smooth and in good order, with no notable issues or damage we could see.
The handsome lines of the bodywork are crisp and all the gaps look to be even and factory finish, with no evidence of corrosion or damage apparent. Hand in hand with the dapper bodywork, the external trim, including lots of brightwork, is all present and correct and shows little in the way of wear.
Sitting atop is a dark blue fabric hood. Electrically operated and heavily insulated so the cabin stays warm and quiet no matter what is happening outside, it’s also very neatly styled, meaning the car looks fabulous with the hood up or down. It presents in excellent condition, with no damage or fading we could observe.
Factory six-spoke wheels add a final layer of panache to proceedings, finished in light silver and showing no evidence of lacquer peel or kerbing, they’re the cherry on the top (well, bottom) of a very elegant cake.
The Mechanics
- 3,993cc twin-turbo V8
- Power steering, traction control, ABS
- 8-speed Tiptronic transmission
- All-wheel drive system
With a hearty 4-litre V8 twin-turbo, you might imagine that the GTC would cost a small fortune to run. Not so. With this generation, Bentley fitted cylinder deactivation technology to the V8, so when cruising and not under load, it can run on four cylinders, thus increasing efficiency and leaving you with a little extra cash in your pocket. (Handy, as those Berluti belts don’t buy themselves, do they?)
That’s not to say the car lacks power. With 500hp and 660Nm on tap, it would give your average locomotive a run for its money in the brute force stakes. This wave of torque drives all four wheels, providing extra stability in all conditions, and it will push the car on to a claimed 309km/h too. And the last time we looked that was… well, a lot.
The standard Tiptronic eight-speed transmission means you can get engaged with the drivetrain, using the paddles to snick up and down the gears. Or you can just pop it into automatic, leave the computers to sort everything out and just waft along in serene isolation.
Summary
Whether you love the idea of the monstrous power afforded by that twin-turbo V8, or the notion of smooth, elegant grand touring with the option of dropping the top, the GTC makes a lot of sense.
Offered with low indicated mileage, and eye-catching colour scheme and a high specification, this Bentley is definitely worthy of your consideration.
