The Background

Starting back in 1919 Bentley Motors has always been at the forefront of luxury and speed creating some of the best cars to ever grace the world's roads.

Bentley would become a household name after their Le Mans wins in 1924, 1927, 1928, 1929 & 1930 with the ‘Bentley Boys’. To help commemorate this motorsport success Bentley would release the Mulsanne in 2010, named after the infamous Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans.

The Mulsanne is considered one of the only vehicles that Bentley has built entirely in-house since Volkswagen acquired the company in 1998, it does not share a platform from any other vehicle. This makes it the first model to be independently designed by Bentley since W.O. Bentley’s 8 litre model in 1930.

In 2009 Bentley would reveal the concept for the Mulsanne at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, followed up with several other motor show appearances. The Mulsanne was built to replace the outgoing Arnage model, which was Bentley's flagship model at the end of the noughties.

Filled with many hi-tech toys, the Mulsanne is the height of luxury and technology on four wheels. Featuring cylinder de-activation to improve efficiency, a rear-view parking camera to get into the tightest of spaces, and optional wi-fi hotspot to keep even the busiest of businessmen connected.

Owing to ever more stringent emission regulations the Mulsanne name would be retired in 2020. After 10 years in production, it would bow out with a special edition by Mulliner limited to only 30 units.

The History

The history of this Mulsanne would have started months before it was anywhere near the production line.

Through several meetings at Bentley Leicester, the ideal specification was reached with many high-end options such as the £10,700 option Mulliner Driving Specification with Painted Wheel, the premier specification at £7,700, and the all-important refrigerated bottle cooler with frosted glass and bespoke crystal champagne flutes at a cool £6,700.

We will get into the specification in more detail as we go through the description, but let’s just say it is chock full of tech and comfort.

This car started its journey down the production line at the start of 2014 and would be first registered for use on the UK roads on the 16th of September 2014. The first owner would appear to be from the midlands area and would get the car serviced by Bentley of Birmingham.

It would stay within the midlands until 2018, when it moved down south with the second owner where it is within the vicinity of Bentley & Rolls Royce specialists, Hillier Hill, this specialist would carry out the next 3 services until 2021.

In 2021 the current owner acquired the car from the specialist team at Romans of St. Albans and has used the car a handful of times since but they have kept it in a dedicated car storage facility.

It is now coming up for sale so that the next person can experience the dream that is owning, running, and driving a modern Bentley. The feeling you get at the helm of this luxury car is second to none, as you look down the bonnet and see the Bentley badge flying in the centre, you know that you have just achieved a childhood dream.

The Paperwork

With this being a relatively new vehicle there are only a couple of invoices for service work that has been carried out by Hillier Hill. The all-important V5c is present so the excited new owner will be able to drive away in this superb bliss on the day of collection.

Along with the few invoices and more legal requirements such as the V5 and a printout of all of her MOTs, there is a collection of Bentley embossed literature which includes the leather-bound owner’s manual. It must be said to keep this manual safe; it is said that it can cost as much as £1,000 to replace it.

The best piece of paperwork that comes with this car is the entire build/spec sheet. It identifies, in great detail, every single part and optional that has been added to this car through the build process. This has been photographed in its entirety so that a prospective buyer can see what equipment has been put onto this car.

Just for reference, to show how much of a great deal you are getting, the base price of this car in 2014 was £190,166.67 after £46,220.82 of optional extras it rocketed the ‘on-road’ price to £236,387.46. in 2022 you can get one mighty car for a fraction of the new price which is always a great feeling.

The Interior

Stepping into a Bentley is an occasion in itself and with the Mulsanne being the flagship model it represents the height of quality for the British marque. Along with standard-fit features such as the infotainment system the interior of this Mulsanne is chock full of expensive optional extras.

This Bentley has been optioned with the ‘Mulliner Driving Specification’, this does not only improve the ride, but the interior gets some driving-focused upgrades.

Along with the hand-crafted leather seats and matching diamond quilted patterned door inserts there is a new perforated headlining, all unique to the Mulliner specification. These bespoke touches in the interior of this Mulsanne are in great condition, with all-electric gizmos working perfectly.

Along with the Mulliner Driving Specification extras, there are a few more toys that have been put into the interior.

It would seem that the first owner wanted to have the best Mulsanne available fitting the interior with rear-seat entertainment, a wi-fi hotspot, TV tuner, six-disc DVD player, veneered picnic tables, fold-down vanity mirrors, deep pile Wilton carpet, Bentley wing badges on the doors and the best feature of all the refrigerated bottle cooler with champagne flutes that sits in-between the rear passengers.

These optional extras come to an eye-watering £21,800, a mind-boggling number to even imagine spending on extras but just as well the first owner spent all that money as the interior of this car is a sumptuous palace of opulence equivalent to that of a first-class cabin it is the perfect place to travel.

All of these extras work perfectly, with the TVs providing a clear picture, the fridge cooling the bottle of Veuve Clicquot, and picnic tables folding out easily with no real signs of use at all.

One of the only spots of damage on the interior of this otherwise perfect Mulsanne is some slight cracks in the glass air-conditioning buttons. However, because these are glass buttons, these can be filled much like a crack on a windscreen meaning this shouldn’t be a costly fix. It should be said that these buttons still work as they should.

As part of the Mulliner Driving Specification, the normal pedals have been replaced in favour of some drilled alloy pedals which grip the soles of your shoes putting across a sporty feeling.

Along with the alloy pedals the rest of the interior of full of metal switchgear such as the ‘organ stop’ air vent controls, ‘coined’ door handles, and gear selector top. All of these tactile options provide another level of luxury over any other premium car.

Before we finish up with the interior and move onto the exterior condition there are a few other smaller features to mention within the interior of this Mulsanne.

To improve privacy the first owner opted to fit the electrically operated roll-up sunscreen for the rear and rear passenger windows, this excellent feature works as intended providing the cabin with shade and privacy.

Matching the interiors fit and finish even the boot is a luxury experience, fitted with 2 optional ‘city umbrellas’, you will also find the optional first aid kit here along with the space saver under the boot floor.

The boot has everything you could ever need should you get caught short whilst out and about. You will also find two of the lamb’s wool floor mats in the boot, this is to keep them in perfect condition and out of harm's way. It has to be said these floor mats are crafted in such a beautiful way that they could even be used as pillows.

As you can imagine the interior of this Bentley is in overall brilliant condition. With only that small mark on the heater controls, it is the perfect place to sit and relax as you are swept along in total comfort. An interior second to none, with some brilliant features, it is the perfect car for anyone.

The Exterior

The exterior of the Bentley Mulsanne is unique, unlike anything else on the roads it has an immense amount of road presence. With the Mulsanne not being based on an existing VW group wheelbase, the exterior has been designed entirely in-house at the Bentley factory in Crewe.

This Mulsanne is presented in perfect exterior condition. The first owner would have had the choice of over 100 exterior paint colours, they ended up choosing the brilliantly named ‘Extreme Silver for the princely sum of £3,500. This paint is extremely metallic and is also pearlescent meaning it looks different from all angles, switching seamlessly from an icy silver to a warmer shade of silver.

Sitting on perfectly presented 21” Mulliner specific wheels it wafts along the roads providing great comfort for the interior passengers. As you would expect from any proper Bentley the ‘Flying B’ mascot regally sits atop the bonnet which announces your arrival in style.

The Mulsanne is fitted with enormous LED headlights that provide the front ends distinctive appearance. In addition to these lights, there is the metal grill, shrouded with a shiny surround to ever cement the luxurious nature of this car.

Another great exterior feature are the small metal ‘B’ vents found just behind the front wheels which sit above a metal strip that tracks from the front to the rear of the cabin.

The exterior of this Mulsanne is present in great condition and will be the perfect addition to anyone’s collection. Providing effortless style it is one of those cars you will turn back and look at after you have parked it up.

The Mechanics

The engine compartment is the heart of this beast, but it was also sadly the undoing of this car owing to ever more stringent emission regulations. The twin-turbo 6 ¾ litre power plant can fire this near 3-ton land yacht down the road at incredible speed and with the slick 8-speed gearbox mated to the back, it is a pleasure to drive.

With this being the Mulliner Driving Spec, it has a few upgrades under the bonnet over a normal Mulsanne. Fitted with sport-tuned air suspension and steering it has little wallow in the corners but still retains the tell tail Bentley waft to allow for both vigorous drives or a sumptuous motorway cruise.

With a sport button, 505hp, and 752 lb-ft of torque under your right foot it is not to be messed with, it can even reach 0-60 in a touch over 5 seconds, that’s sports car territory.

To help with the massive speed Bentley has fitted the Mulsanne with huge 400mm front discs and 370mm rear discs to help provide enough stopping power.

Out on the road is where you understand why this car exists. Providing an effortless silent ride inside the cabin even under hard acceleration on the roughest of English roads you are reminded that it is unlike any other car on the market and why Bentley commands such respect in the automotive space.

With the service work that has been carried out on this Mulsanne and the relatively low mileage, it is barely run in. With Bentley having had just over 50 years to perfect this 6 ¾ litre engine it is no surprise that reliability is a key selling point, this Mulsanne should not leave you standing at the side of the road like other luxury car offerings.

It is now ready for the next owner to take her on many long journeys to see the best parts of the world. With ever-tightening emission regulations, we are unlikely to see another car like this with its big V8 it is a car to be used and with its sporty additions, it is one hell of a car to drive.

The Appeal

It doesn’t take much to sell a Bentley to anyone, full of high-end tech, a smooth driving experience, and luxurious touches it suits everyone’s in-car needs.

The TVs in the headrest will keep your rear passengers entertained, the wi-fi hotspot will keep your passenger's social media up to date and the driving pack will keep the driver engaged however the drive is.

Whether you are a car lover or a lover of luxury goods a Bentley is a sign of success, a sign that you have reached the top of your industry, and this car offers you the opportunity to show off all of your hard work.

With all of the kit, low mileage, and incredible interior condition this is the perfect Bentley Mulsanne that will be the best car that you ever own.

Keep your eye on this one, you cannot afford to miss it.
