The Clubvan wasn’t quite the sales success that Mini would have liked and was discontinued after just 3 years with very few sold. 

In fact only 50 were sold in the USA which was the target market!  This was due to the high duty on commercial vehicles (known as the Chicken Tax) which added a third of the purchase price in duty! 

As of last year there were only 664 on the road in the UK plus a few SORN, which explains why you don’t see one that often. 

Surely destined to become a classic, the top of the range Cooper D model has to be the one to have, praised at the time for its great driving characteristics and still entertaining today.

The interior of the Clubvan is Cooper spec from the seats forward.  The grey and black upholstery is clean and good condition with no worn areas.  The carpets are equally clean and show little wear, even below the pedals. 

The instruments all appear to work correctly, and the seller tells us that all the electronics are performing as they should.  The rear load area is where you might expect to show some signs of use, but in this instance it is clean and unmarked. 

There is a full size mat in place which is clean, and there are only a few marks on the roof lining, most of which would clean off.  The large mesh divider between the cabin and load area is still in place.

All in all the entire interior is pretty much as it was delivered, and with a bit of cleaning to remove dust, it would be exceptional for a car with this mileage.

On the outside the paintwork is pretty much faultless apart from a few small stone chips on the bonnet. The Ice Blue paint is eye-catching, and the van would be an excellent rolling billboard for a small business, with plenty of space for sign writing or even a wrap. 

The 16 inch aluminium Cooper wheels are in good condition with only a single, inch long mark on the rim.  There is one centre cap missing and the other 3 are slightly discoloured. 

The tyres are all lightly worn with plenty of life left.

The seller tells us that the Mini drives exceptionally well and has lost none of the Mini’s legendary performance and handling.

Although plenty of miles were covered during the Mini’s early it had an extended warranty and servicing schedule up to 80,000 miles so we know that it was well cared for at Main Dealers until that point.

A practical alternative to an estate car with a good size, easily accessible load area, the Mini would be a great van for a small business. 

Alternatively we think it’s rarity makes it an interesting proposition as an investment as there can be very few on the road that are as nicely preserved as this one.
