2013 Land Rover Defender 110 Utility

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Fantastic late-model Defender ready for action
  • Owned from new by Environment Agency
  • Huge conversion potential
  • Amazing specification

THE APPEAL

Ready for adventure? If so, then this could be the perfect vehicle for you. A 2013 Land Rover Defender 110, it has been owned from new by the Environment Agency and was converted from the factory into a five-seater utility vehicle, equipped with a roof rack, Warn winch, reflective decals, beacons, a work light and its own handwash station.
Together, those features will no doubt come in handy for this Defender’s next life, most likely as an adventure or expedition vehicle. It’s halfway there already.
It’s also a good example of the ‘Puma’-engined Defender, with sensible mileage and a good maintenance history.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • UK V5C
  • MOT June 2023
  • One owner
  • Ex-Environment Agency
  • Supplied new by Roger Young Land Rover in Devon
  • Over-serviced with full printout of work carried out while owned by EA.

THE INTERIOR

  • Five-seater
  • Centre cubby
  • Air conditioning
  • Fold-up load bay guard

It may be a utility model, but the Defender is still reasonably well-equipped with air conditioning and electric windows – great news for those used to manual window winders taking up vital elbow room in the cabin. It also has an Alpine USB stereo and a central cubby box.
It’s a five-seater, with a fold-up luggage guard for the rear, which is essentially a van load bay with a side-mounted hand wash station. There’s also a diesel-powered cabin pre-heater.
Overall, the inside is very tidy with good seats and door cards, but the load bay has clearly seen some use and the cubby box lid will need a minor repair.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Smart condition
  • Steel wheels with Goodyear Wrangler tyres
  • Full-size roof rack
  • Chequer plate trim

Finished in Zermatt Silver, the Defender looks purposeful, with silver chequer plate on the wing tops so you can climb up and reach the roof rack. It also has fold-down access steps on the rear.
It’s in good order, with no major marks or dents (just gentle wear and tear) and is unusual in so far as it’s a five-seater, but with a panel-van rear. It has light guards at the front, plus a work lamp and auxiliary beacon, whilst underneath the chassis appears to be in good structural order with no obvious concerns.
It is missing a rear mudflap in the photos but the vendor will replace this before the new owner collects it. The winch is also currently non-operational but the vendor is happy to fit a replacement by separate negotiation, or leave the current one attached as it may be a straightforward fix,

THE MECHANICS

  • 2.2-litre Ford-derived diesel
  • Six-speed manual transmission with dual range
  • Auxiliary battery
  • Drives very well

Under the bonnet you’ll find a 2.2-litre version of the Ford-derived ‘Puma’ diesel, as used in the Transit, Mondeo and Jaguar X-TYPE. It’s a unit renowned for its smoothness and longevity and it drives very well indeed.
This one has covered just under 84,500 miles and has been regularly serviced and subject to daily roadworthiness checks.
According to the vendor it operates without fault and the transmission works as it ought to in both high and low ratios. There are no reported issues with the steering, brakes or suspension.

SUMMARY

With so many features already enhancing its expedition CV, this is a Defender that's ripe for a new life as an adventure vehicle or to be taken to the next level as an extreme off roader.

With one previous keeper - a government agency - it has been properly maintained and looked after and is offered in great running order, presenting itself as a blank canvas for its next owner to do whatever they like with, safe in the knowledge that it has been looked after throughout its life.
