Since the late 50s, Harley Davidson has been providing the world with two-wheel, open-road fun with a thunderous soundtrack in the form of their Sportster model. The unique romance between biker and bike has long been part of Harley's heritage, with the Sportster being a leading model for riders to add their own flair and personalisation. The Sportster is a representation of the freedom the brand shouts about, its rock and roll, good times and unreplicated enjoyment. 

As a bike, this 2009 Sportster is still very factory, with the only noticeable difference is the addition of the Vance & Hines exhaust which adds an incredible echoing noise to the otherwise classic bike. The main modification comes in the form of the Gemini enclosed sidecar which has been personalised with the familiar Harley hog and adapted in order to carry two children safely.

This sidecar adds a unique look to the bike, it's almost Adams family meets biker, bad boy turned family man and well, we absolutely love it. To add to the appeal, there’s a beer keg trailer, with familiar black Harley styling, chrome hog detailing and even a bottle opener, for us self-proclaimed Harley lovers this is an awesome set-up for the keen biker who wants to bring the family along for the ride.

 

Adapted to allow the current owner to take the grandkids out, the bike is now hardly used with only 300 miles carried out in the last three years. It provided fantastic fun and unforgettable memories for the family but now the kids are grown up and the vendor uses the bike very little. 

First things first, the combination of American Harley Sportster and British Gemini sidecar is a match made in heaven. Harley has always had its own individual rock and roll, outlaw, almost gothic styling and the Gemini works with that brilliantly. The black and chrome detailing flow from the bike to the sidecar, with both featuring Harley and hog detailing. It's evident the bike is cared for considerably, being kept garaged and covered but cleaned and checked often to ensure there are no surprises. 

The additional trailer is for show purposes really, but it adds a quirky attraction and a talking point if the bike was to be taken to shows or meets. This too is finished in the usual Harley colour, black with additional Harley styling features such as the pig bottle opener present. It's certainly a one-off bike in fabulous condition. 

During our visit, the bike was started and manoeuvred a few times for the photographer. Each time, the bike rumbled and cracked with a godly note thanks to the Hance & Vines exhaust. The main draw for many Harley riders is that infectious sound, the pure force and might that fills the silence is simply gargantuan. 

The 1200cc engine has been maintained by a Harley Davidson specialist in Bridport. PMJ motorcycles are almost a few hours from the vendor but we’re told their expertise and experience with Harleys is unmatched, hence why they choose to transport the bike there. The bike had a new clutch fitted by PMJ in June 2021 and was also serviced at the same time, only 3 miles have been covered since, as the bike was transported by trailer. The operation and safety of the bike have always been of the utmost importance to the seller due to their line of work and also how the bike was used, as such there are no reported issues and we’re told the bike is in tip-top shape. 

 This is a spectacular Sportster in fabulous condition with additional style matching sidecar, its quirkiness attracts crowds and its powerful noise impresses them further. Whether you choose to ride solo, chuck in the kids or even take the dog for a spin, you’re sure to have the ride of your life.
