Finished with striking Carrera Red leather upholstery, the interior of this 911 cabriolet treads the line between luxury and sporting intent perfectly. The sports seats are heated and cooled, so no matter what the weather is doing, you and your passenger can stay perfectly comfortable.
All of the leather presents in excellent condition, with very minimal signs of use and wear, and certainly no damage evident to our eyes. There’s not even any crumpling or creasing to the seat bolsters.
Similarly well-kept, the trim, dashboard and switchgear all appears in excellent condition. There are the usual minor scratches to the sill protectors and one or two very minor blemishes from use to be seen on the driving controls. However, these are barely noticeable and overall the cabin looks in very fine fettle.
Coordinating nicely with the red leather, the cabin carpets are bright red with contrasting black Porsche overmats. Again, they look to have been kept extremely well, with no signs of significant wear or staining that we could discern. It’s clear that the car has not only been looked after, but that the use it’s had has been sympathetic.
Under the bonnet there is a front luggage area, enough for a small case or a couple of overnight bags. Trimmed in black carpet, it also contains a Porsche inflation kit, air compressor and original toolkit.
The Exterior
- Arctic Silver paintwork
- Original alloys with new tyres
- Weatherproof, breathable cover and bikini cover included
- Electrically powered fabric roof
- Xenon headlights / LED side and rear lights
The shimmering Arctic Silver paintwork provides a nice contrast to the bright red interior and, twinned with the black fabric roof, makes for an aesthetically pleasing combination.
Looking at the paintwork itself, it presents in very fine condition. Smooth and with a deep shine, there are very few blemishes - just one or two minor imperfections and a couple of stone chips on the bonnet. But there were no notable scratches or blemishes we could see. The bodywork is in a similarly fine state, straight and clean with no dents, damage or corrosion we could see.
All of the external trim elements, light lenses and badges appear to be in excellent condition too, with no cracks, damage or notable fading. Much the same can be said for the electrically operated fabric roof. The black fabric is tight and looks very well, with no signs of splitting, wear or UV damage. The owner tells us that the mechanism operates perfectly too, with no issues. Also present is the removable factory wind deflector, ensuring occupants enjoy a more comfortable journey.
Riding on 19” 10-spoke alloy wheels, the car has real presence. The alloys themselves are the original Porsche items and are presented in good condition, with just a few minor marks and scuffs. The set of Michelin Pilot Sport tyres still have plenty of tread.
Looking under the car, the underside looks to be straight and undamaged, with no signs of significant corrosion or repairs. There is a very small amount of surface corrosion to some suspension components, but only what would be commensurate with the vehicle’s age and use.
The Mechanics
- 3,800cc flat-six
- 6-speed manual transmission
- Comprehensive service history
- MOT to June 2023
Fitted with what is widely regarded as one of the finest engines Porsche has ever built, this 997.2 offers a quite wonderful driving experience. Twinning that sonorous, naturally aspirated flat-six with a manual transmission really helps to wring every drop of performance and character from it. It means a mighty 380bhp is delivered to the rear wheels, offering a 0-60 time of just under 5 seconds and a potential top speed of 180mph.
Other features include electronically adjustable dampers and Porsche’s active exhaust system. As this is a ‘Gen 2’ car, it also doesn’t suffer from the same IMS bearing issues that the earlier cars were renowned for.
The engine bay itself is nice and clean, with no evidence of oil leaks. There is some coolant staining to some of the hoses, but the owner assures us that this is historic. As well as having a recent MOT, the owner tells us that the front pads and discs have also recently been changed.
The dashboard doesn’t show any warning lights and the vendor tells us that the car drives perfectly, with no issues that they are aware of.
Summary
If you're looking for a modern Porsche 911, the 997.2 is definitely the one to have. With numerous aesthetic and mechanical upgrades over the 997.1, it offers what many believe to be the most complete driving experience of any modern 911.
The fact that, unusually for a cabriolet, this car features a manual transmission, just makes it all the more desirable. With a fine service history, long MOT, low mileage and excellent specification, this lovely sports car is sure to offer many years of motoring pleasure to its new owner.
