Highlights
- Fantastic Lapis Blue colour
- In current ownership for 12 years
- Strong service history
The Appeal
The car that saved Porsche from crisis in the late 90s/early 00s, the Boxster enjoys an enduring appeal to all walks of automotive life, from the enthusiast drivers that enjoy its fantastic balance and handling to those that simply enjoy a top-down cruise with plenty of storage and a cracking soundtrack.
The second-generation Boxster (designated internally as the 987, as seen here) features the choice of a 2.7 or 3.2 (later 3.4) naturally-aspirated flat-six engine, and saw a more conventional front-end design adopted after the preceding generation’s controversial ‘fried egg’ headlight design split opinions.
This particular example is a 2.7-litre, five-speed model finished in the ever-desirable Lapis Blue, and has been in the care of the current owner for 12 years now, with regular servicing irrespective of milage and a strong history, making it a fantastic candidate for being your next summer car, that you can use all year round…
History & Paperwork
- V5 registered keepers document, showing just 2 former keepers
- Full complement of Porsche handbooks and manuals, including the leather book pack
- Stamped service record, with 7 bi-annual stamps from a mixture of OPC and specialist service centres
- Current MoT valid until 23.08.2023, with an advisory for a power steering fluid leak which has been rectified, the invoice for which is included in the gallery below
- Most recent service carried out in July 2022 at 62,833 miles
- Invoices for miscellaneous items such as new batteries, air-conditioning work, etc
- An invoice from January 2017 for bodywork attention to the N/S door, handle and mirror cap
The Interior
- Very good condition overall
- Some wear visible on high-traffic areas such as the steering wheel, shifter, handbrake and inner door sill trims, which is commensurate for the vehicle’s age and milage
- Desirable PCCM and BOSE optional extras specified from new
- Wind-deflector present-and-correct
- Both the front and rear luggage compartments are clean and tidy, with no sign of any fluid stains or fuel smells
- The screen for the HVAC system is slightly damaged on the right-hand side, but this does not affect its operation
- Up above, the electrically-folding roof is in full working order, showing no signs of any hesitation or juddering
- No reported faults, warning lights or waterproofing issues
The Exterior
- Good overall condition
- There are some commensurate marks such as stone chips, minor blemishes and small scratches in the usual places (front bumper, bonnet, mirror caps, handles) which have been highlighted in the gallery below
- Upon closer inspection, there is some ‘spidering’ noted in the paintwork on the front bumper towards the O/S edge
- Up above, the roof material has faded slightly, and would benefit from a reconditioning/resealing to bring it back to its best, though there are no reported waterproofing issues
- All four wheels are in presentable condition, but show signs of bubbling beneath the paintwork around the centres and outer edges of the spokes
The Mechanicals
- 2.7-litre, naturally-aspirated flat-six engine sending power to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission
- The engine starts happily and idles well, though the starter motor itself squeals intermittently - a common fault on Boxsters of this era
- During our photo shoot, we saw no sign of any untoward behaviour from the engine, transmission, chassis or brakes
- There are no reported faults from the vendor, and no warning lights present on the dashboard
Summary
The appeal of the Boxster is not hard to understand - practical and genuinely usable all-year-round but with a fantastic chassis and n/a flat-six engine, it’s no wonder that they enjoy constant popularity year-round.
This particular example benefits from a number of desirable factory optional extras, a fantastic colour scheme and long-term ownership, and would make for an excellent addition to any driving enthusiast’s garage.
