The Appeal

Only the Italians could create a car as sculptural and beautiful as the Series V Quattroporte and simply call it ‘four door.’  Since the first Maserati saloons entered production in 1963 they have been characterised by that combination of exuberance and understatement.
The Series V Maserati like this one was launched in 2003 and shared its structural underpinnings and sonorous 4.2litre V8 with the firm’s two door sports cars.  Developed and produced by Ferrari, this engine is good for 395bhp in the Quattroporte, enough to catapult it to 60mph in a shade over 5secs.
Performance and Ferrari DNA are only part of the Series V Quatttroporte story.  The car was designed to out-Mercedes Mercedes, offering a level of luxury, comfort and style that the German marques could only dream of.  But this was never meant to be a mass-produced model: less than 8,000 found homes during the car’s nine year production run.  Very few of those were RHD models like this one.
This 2007 Quattroporte appears to be finished in beautiful Nero Carbonio metallic with a contrasting Cuoio cream interior.  It is a low mileage car with full service history – by Maserati and specialists – and has had just two owners during its life.  The Quattroporte is a true piece of red-blooded Italian exotica yet is practical and, currently, very good value.  If you are looking for an alternative to a top-end Mercedes executive express, this nicely specified example looks tempting.

When Italian car makers do luxury they deliver it with a certain panache that could be the work of no other country.  Such is the case with the beautiful interior of this Maserati, which deftly blends high end luxury materials with a distinctly exuberant Italian flair.
The inside of this Quattroporte cleverly incorporates traditional Maserati touchstones, like the oval clock, with modern features such as the central infotainment system.  Everywhere there is handcrafted wood and leather.  The high specification includes a Bose premium sound system, Alcantara headlining, cruise control, satnav, sunroof and rear privacy blinds.
The original owner of this car specified it nicely with what appears to be Cuoio leather, a beige cream reminiscent of Italy’s finest cappuccinos that is piped with contrasting dark cream.  The leather is in very good condition and appears soft and supple.  The driver’s seat inevitably has slight creases indicating wear but elsewhere only a mark on the base of the passenger seat, beside the seat controls, detracts.
The front seats are fully electric with memory and heating as well as massage function.
The light cream carpets are inevitably susceptible to discolouration and wear but are in very good condition throughout, including in the boot.  Perhaps they are one of the best indications that this car has been carefully looked after.
The switchgear is generally in very good condition, just some light marks showing on the controls beneath and to the right of the infotainment system.  The gearbox selection indicator also has marks.  None are easily visible except with close attention.

The Exterior

  • Nero Carbonio metallic bodywork in very good condition
  • 19inch Maserati alloy wheels with Pirelli P-Zero tyres
  • One of the last pre-facelift cars
This 2007 Quattroporte appears to have left the factory specified with attractive Nero Carbonio metallic, a dark colour somewhere between grey and black.  It suits the car’s profile well and is generally in very good condition.
There are some light marks around the car, none of which look problematic or difficult to rectify if the buyer wishes.  The main points concern the four door handles, all of which have suffered paint delamination which we understand is a common problem with this model. The edges of all four doors also display stone chips.
There is a small scuff on the edge of the driver’s door mirror and similar below the offside front corner parking sensor.  The rear bumper has a small scuff on the nearside.  There appears to be a small chip above the nearside headlamp – this may be a trick of the light so perhaps worth the buyer checking with the Seller.
All four 19inch Maserati alloy wheels show kerb damage.  Although not unsightly, the buyer may wish to consider refurbishment to ensure they complement the rest of this well maintained car.  The car sits on premium quality Pirelli P-Zero tyres.

The Mechanics

  • 4.2litre F136 Ferrari-Maserati jointly developed V8 engine developing 395bhp
  • 0-60mph in 5.2secs
  • 6spd ZF automatic gearbox with Tiptronic semi-automatic mode
  • Full service history to 27,7720 miles in 2021
  • MOT to January 2024 with no advisories
The heart of this four door supercar is a 4.2litre V8 jointly developed between Maserati and Ferrari and manufactured in the latter’s factory.  It is in the fine tradition of Italian engines, characterful and quick with a delightful soundtrack through its four-pipe exhaust.  In the Quattroporte output is 395bhp, sufficient to deliver the occupants to 60mph in a little over 5secs.
Power is delivered via a ZF 6spd automatic gearbox with Tiptronic option.  These boxes are generally very reliable and sufficient for this considerable power.
Such crafted engineering requires maintenance by experts and this car has it.  The service book shows regular, attentive maintenance by Maserati or Maserati specialists throughout its life.  It has covered less than 40,000 miles but there are seven stamps at regular scheduled intervals.  The last service appears to have been in March 2021 at 27,770 miles so the buyer may wish to factor in a service on purchase as it would appear to be due.
The car has MOT to January 2024 with no advisories.

Summary

The Quattroporte is that rare car – a supercar that is as happy blasting down the autobahn as pootling around Cannes.  And all with space for family and their luggage.  Yet it is a rare sight, even Bentleys and Rolls Royces are easier to spot.
This Series V Quattroporte was nicely specified by its original owner, the colour combination and the list of equipment standing out even before you consider the full service history, low mileage and low owners.  These cars are remarkable value in the market and an opportunity to experience just how good a four door handbuilt Italian supercar really can be.
