The Appeal
Launched in 2003 as successor to the DB7, the DB9 was the last of the fully hand built Astons. Built with an all aluminium chassis with an aluminium and composite body it had twice the structural rigidity of the preceding DB7 mode whilst being 25% lighter.
Powered by a development of Aston’s 6 litre, 48-valve, V12 Vantage engine it punches out 470bhp, power sufficient to propel the DB9 to a top speed of 189mph with 60mph from a standing start in an impressive 4.6 seconds! The aluminium V12 is mounted well back in the chassis, while the gearbox is positioned ahead of the rear axle, resulting in 85% of the car's mass being sited between the axles and a perfect 50/50 front to rear weight distribution.

We think this one is quite a rarity as there can be few DB9 Volantes remaining with such a comprehensive service history and low mileage. As with all collector cars, the best examples always command the highest prices, and with values slowly climbing we think this is one to have.

The Interior
- Comfortable Obsidian black leather seats
- Superbly styled luxury interior
- Working SatNav and phone connectivity
As you might expect from a top of the range Aston Martin there is little lacking the way of comfort or technology. The black leather seats were praised in period for their comfort and support, and the quality of the leather remains with just light wear to the drive’s side bolster, and some age creasing to the leather. The black carpets are clean and show only the slightest wear. When erected the black soft top has a light grey interior roof lining that helps to prevent the interior becoming dark and gloomy.
All the switchgear is clean and everything appears to work properly. The instruments are clear and unmarked, with no warning lights showing. There are all the driver aids that were available including cruise control, parking sensors, SatNav with pop up screen, electric seats, phone connectivity; the list goes on.
Gears can be selected for fully automatic mode through simple dash buttons, but you can choose drive in a more spirited fashion using the paddle shift levers behind the steering wheel and perhaps selecting Sport mode via the console button for the full V12 experience!

The Exterior
- Outstanding Onyx Metallic Black paint
- Original multi spoke 19 inch wheels in excellent condition
- Black soft top roof erects and stows quickly and correctly
We studied the exterior of the Aston closely, and despite its age we could find very few faults. Surprisingly devoid of stone chips which would show given the dark finish, the paintwork around the nose remains in excellent condition. We did note that there a couple of small nicks in the paint on the edge of the boot lid below the Aston badge, but these are minor and you’d have to hunt to find them. It is likely that the Aston has spent much of its time safely garaged as the folding roof is clean, with no stains or marks.
The wheels, which appear to be the original factory items, are clean and show no curb damage or bubbling to the lacquer. Tyres are Bridgestone Potenza on the rear axle (which were the factory fit when new) and Yokohama Advan Sports to the front. All are lightly worn.
Overall the exterior is exceptionally well preserved and the Onyx Black paint has a deep shine and looks superb when viewed from any angle.
The Mechanics
- 450bhp 6-litre 48-valve V12
- Annual servicing from new
- Exceptionally clean engine bay and underside
Upon lifting the bonnet of the DB9 we were pleased to find an immaculate engine bay looking like it had left the showroom the day before! There is virtually no road grime or signs of age, no leaves or cobwebs and all the surfaces are free from corrosion or fluid stains. It has obviously been garaged and well cared for.
Looking at the service history explains why; the car has had a Main Dealer service every year (except 2014) with nothing more than fluid changes and general maintenance required. With an average of just 2,300 miles covered each year (just enough to keep it in good health) it is currently in excellent mechanical condition.

Summary
This DB9 has everything going for it; low miles, excellent service history, great colour and superb condition. Probably one of the best looking cars produced by Aston in recent years, and perfect for long distance touring in supreme comfort.
We think that DB9s currently provide outstanding value for money, but not for much longer..
