Highlights
- Low mileage
- Original condition
- Hard-top included
- 2 former keepers
The Appeal
The lovely little MGTF has been a popular two-seat convertible for some time, and this one appears to be a gem with having only two former owners and a meagre mileage of 30,900. Complete with a genuine hard top, this little 2 seater is ready for bad weather as well as sunshine.
The History and Paperwork
- 2 owners
- Selection of previous MOT certificates
- Some recent invoices
- Current V5c
Purchased by a new automotive museum in the north of England in a view to including the MG as an exhibit. It has now become available to make room for other vehicles. There is no appreciable history other than some more recent invoices and a selection of previous MOT certificates. However, reviewing the overall condition of the car and the low mileage should dispel any major concerns. The MOT has expired but the vendor can ensure it has a fresh certificate before collection.
The Interior
- Clean cloth seats
- Good carpets with mats
- CD player
The cockpit of this MG is clean and free from any noticeable damage or wear. The seats are free from burns or tears and the bolsters remain firm and largely unmarked. The entire interior is in good condition as would be expected for a car with such low mileage. The dash is free of any sun damage and the instruments are bright and clear and all the switchgear seems to function as it should.
The Exterior
- Good original condition
- Undamaged factory alloys
- Fully functioning hood
- Colour-matched hard-top included
The grey metallic paintwork has a good deep gloss to it and appears to be void of any major retouching. There are a few incidental car-park marks here and there which would be expected of a car of this age. The hood and latching mechanism functions as it should and the plastic rear screen is intact. There is an additional hard-top roof which is colour matched to the car. This has a little bit of damage to the corners probably due to poor storage. The wheels are the standard factory fitment and in good condition as are the tyres that have a decent level of tread.
The Mechanics
- 1.8 K Series engine
- Recent invoices
- Factory standard mechanicals
The engine does appear to be as it came from the factory and it starts the first time and has a smooth quiet tick-over. Although the car has not been tested on the road, it seemed responsive and easy to engage gears during the photo session. No warning lights appeared on the dash while running. The lack of physical history shouldn’t deter any prospective purchaser because the overall condition and quietness of the engine should inspire some confidence that the car has been cared for properly. Because of the mid-engined position, it has been impossible to view the engine in its entirety, but there is no apparent evidence of any fluid leaks.
Summary
Nice clean TFs are not the easiest of things to find. There may be a selection to choose from but there won’t be many that can boast such low mileage and only 2 owners. Naturally, the lack of substantial history may be a cause of concern, but when you review the car and realise the inward and outward condition, this should help ease that anxiety. It has the bonus of being equipped not only for our British summers, however short they may be, but also it is ready for harsh winters too with the inclusion of a hard-top. This feature not only protects you from the elements but adds a little more security for the car itself.
