The Appeal
The Jaguar XJ X350 arrived in 2003 as the third iteration of the esteemed luxury saloon range topper. Despite the external design being an evolution rather than a revolution, the improvements under the skin were significant. These included some advanced electronic systems, including adaptive self-levelling suspension, and a unibody construction which was both 50% stiffer and 40% lighter.
This example is the highly sought after XJR 4.2L Supercharged model which successfully combined supercar rivalling performance with limousine levels of refinement and comfort. It’s in a great and popular colourway and its already range topping specification is further enhanced with some key, popular extras.
The History and Paperwork
- Our example was supplied new via the UK Jaguar dealer network in February 2004
- The car was supplied by Jaguar dealer Rybrook of Warrington
- The car has been used and enjoyed by five former owners
- The fourth owner retained the car for around eight years
- The current owner acquired the car in 2017 at around 82,000 miles
- The current owner has added about 17,000 miles during their tenure
- There is a good level of interesting paperwork included with the Jaguar
- This includes the current V5 in the name of the owner
- The current MOT is valid until March 2024
- There are numerous previous MOTs included in hard copy
- The original book pack is included complete with service booklet
- This contains 13 service stamps from main dealers and independent specialists
- The last of these dates from 2014 at 77,421 miles
- Numerous high value maintenance invoices are present
- The most recent of these documents a spend of £534 in March 2023

The Interior
- The XJR’s interior is sumptuously trimmed in Ivory leather
- The condition appears faultless throughout
- The commodious front seats present in a pristine condition
- A subtle, embossed “R” logo graces the backrests
- The seats are heated and 16-way electrically adjustable
- The driver’s seat benefits from a three-stage memory function
- This function also encompasses the electrically adjusted pedals and steering column
- The rear cabin provides a real “special occasion” ambiance for lucky passengers
- A sophisticated entertainment console is present in the rear armrest
- This example also includes the factory fitted Multimedia Entertainment Package
- This consists of two 6.5-inch screens built into the rear of the front headrests
- These are linked to a DVD player mounted in the boot
- Even the original Jaguar headphones are included
- The 2004 period Jaguar branded Motorola mobile phones are still present front and rear
- As a range topping sports saloon, the car is packed with luxury refinements and driver aids
- These include an Alpine, 11 speaker sound system and satellite navigation
- Driver aids include radar active cruise control and speed limiter
- The capacious boot is trimmed in hard wearing grey carpet
- This is also the home of the CD changer and satellite navigation DVD player
- Overall, the interior of this XJR exudes quality, sophistication, and luxury
- The Ivory leather is complimented by the copious light walnut veneer
The Exterior
- Our XJR is finished in its original Midnight Peal paintwork
- This is a great, subtle colourway for this ultimate Q-car
- Both paintwork and bodywork appear to be in excellent condition throughout
- No significant imperfections were noted or reported
- The car’s huge performance potential is hinted at by the sporting mesh grill
- Either side of this sit the high-specification Bi-Xenon headlights
- Some subtle accents of chrome finish the exterior treatment perfectly
- The car rides on optional 20-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels
- These are Jaguar Callisto items and shod with a matching set of Dunlop SP Sport tyre
- These appear to be in a great, unmarked condition all round
- The open construction of the wheels allows sight of the red “R” monogrammed callipers
- Front and rear bumpers feature body-coloured sensors for the parking assist system
- All glass and light lenses appear to be pristine and original
- Overall, the XJR looks very subtle and truly belies its huge performance potential
The Mechanics
- The X350 XJR featured the mighty 4.2L supercharged V8 AJ34S engine
- This variant featured variable valve timing to produce a huge 390bhp and 399 Ib-ft of torque
- This prodigious power is fed to the rear wheels via a six-speed auto gearbox
- This huge specification delivered a five second 0-60 mph time
- The peak torque delivered at 3500 rpm offers eye-widening in-gear pick up too
- Our example appears to have been well cared for and regularly maintained
- Under-bonnet presentation seems original and well presented to underscore this impression
- The underside looks clean and straight with its original protective covers
- The car is reported to be in fine mechanical fettle with recent significant spend documented

The Appeal
Very few cars, at any price-point, can deliver such a broad set of skills wrapped in such a sublime yet subtle looking package as the X350 XJR.
