The Appeal
When it was launched the S-Type was one of the best executive saloons you could have bought. Fast forward nearly twenty years and these once uber-luxurious saloons seem to fly under the radar. This usually results in a lot of ‘bang for your buck’.
With a leather interior, subtle exterior design, and a power 3.0l under the bonnet. This S-Type will get you where you need to be in comfort and style with time to spare.
Having been off the road for the past decade this big cat is ready to stretch its legs once more.
The History and Paperwork
- First hitting the roads in June 2004, this S-Type has been looked after well throughout its life
- The service history points to the car being enjoyed for the first few years of its life
- With a few stamps from Jaguar garages
- The car lived a normal life until around 2011 when it is parked up in the garage and SORN
- This was due to the ill-health of the owner, not by any means an issue with the car
- Sitting in the garage for 10 years
- It was recently uncovered
- Some light recommissioning was carried out
- The car then sailed through the MOT with no advisories
- With two keys, original handbooks, and some assorted paperwork this is a lovely example
- It is now your time to get behind the wheel of this exec saloon
- Wafting along the road in lovely comfort will make even the most tedious journey fun
The Interior
- Opening the door, you are presented with a very Jaguar interior
- Leather and wood as far as the eye can see
- All of the seats are finished in this deep black leather
- Upfront the seats are presented in marvellous condition
- The leather seems to have not aged at all
- You might see a tiny amount of marking where the leather conforms around the driver on the base
- But there are no areas of ripping or tearing, it is in great condition upfront
- In the rear, the story is much the same
- The black leather is almost like new
- You should get no complaints from your rear passengers about the comfort
- Back in the front, we can start to have a look at the car’s features
- There is a large section in the centre console where some of the noughties toys are on display
- Fitted with a radio, CD player, and what looks to be dual zone climate control in the front
- These should make any journey enjoyable
- There does also appear to be a telephone feature within the radio, so you can have fun working out how to use that feature
- On the steering wheel you’ll find the controls for the radio on the left, and what appears to be cruise control on the right
- Just to the right on the door card, you’ll find the four electric window controls as well
- Fitted just above this is a lovely wood veneer accent, this carries on through the cabin
- This wood is in lovely condition indeed
- The headliner is also presented well for its age as well
- Towards the rear of the car, the boot looks in great condition
- The carpeting looks to be void of any stains
- Under the carpet, you’ll find a toolkit, spare wheel, and also the new battery that has recently been fitted
The Exterior
- The S-Type drew styling queues from the original S-Type from the ’60s
- With quad headlights and a rounded grille, it does look remarkably similar
- The exterior of this S-Type is in great condition
- Finished in its original silver paintwork it is reported to have never seen a body shop
- It is noted that there are a few blemishes towards the front of the bonnet
- There is also a slight scratch to the lower nearside door
- But the rest of the car appears to be void of any paint bubbles or other worrying corrosion
- All four of the silver alloys appear to be presented in lovely condition as well
- You’ll see that it still runs on a set of Pirelli P6000
- These have been on the car for an extended period of time, and although not an MOT fail, you may wish to get them changed
- Overall, the exterior is presented very well
- The decade spent in dry storage has extended the life of this wonderful saloon well into the future
The Mechanics
- Fitted with a 3.0l petrol engine this S-Type has more than enough grunt
- It then transfers the power through a smooth automatic gearbox
- This makes for a lovely, proper Jaguar, driving experience
- Wafting along the road in sublime comfort
- Both the engine and gearbox are reported to work very well
- Fitted with cruise control as well, this car will just eat motorway miles
- Mechanically this car is said to be sound
- With its new battery, the engine fires into life with ease and purrs away
- With a long MOT on it, you will be able to get in and enjoy this car from the moment you pick it up
Summary
Once a very expensive luxury saloon this S-Type now offers excellent value for money. What other car will offer you comfortable driving, a leather interior, and a prestigious badge?
