The Appeal

If there was ever a tough act to follow, the F355 would certainly be one. A car that every red-blooded male lusted after to the extent that sale numbers flew through the roof. So surely, any new contender to be put up against the almighty F355 would be overshadowed… Well, perhaps not.
Unveiled in 1999 at the Geneva Motor Show in Berlinetta form, the fresh 360 was much more than just an evolution of the former 355. It was bigger, bolder, voluptuous, modernised and gave a completely new look for Ferrari, a change that would generate 3 times the downforce of the 355 and become a staple of engineering greatness.
Finished with stunning silver paintwork, this particular example has been cared for undoubtedly. Still retaining all of its original booklets and even the original toolkit and service kit, it’s amazing to see a car remain so complete.

Finished in a lavish navy blue leather throughout, the interior of this 360 Spider is absolutely timeless, and preserved in fantastic manner. Featuring the optional F1 gearbox, the F1-style flappy paddle introduces a completely new driving dynamic, engaging your senses without having to let go of the wheel.
The seats are preserved in great condition with only some very minor signs of wear, namely some light fraying and patina on the driver side bolster around the stitching, some light creasing and a light scratch on the passenger side bolster. Aside from these points the seats are in great shape and retain their fantastic comfort and supporting composure.
Sitting in the driver seat and seeing that yellow prancing horse resting on the leather horn cover just in front of you gives you an overwhelming sense of excitement, you truly know you’re sitting in something special. The wheel itself is very well kept with very little signs of wear, and the functional horn buttons built into the wheel grips still function as they should. Just behind the wheel you’re presented eagerly with that 10,000rpm tachometer and the 340km/h speedometer - need we echo that “something special” statement? All of the dials work as they should and show no unwelcome warning signs present.
Surely, the leather wrapped dashboard just adds to the overall opulent experience here, and it absolutely does. The door cards are wrapped in the same leather and all of which presents itself nicely with all of the stitching in great condition. The original radio is present and functional as are all of the ventilation controls - below which a fire extinguisher sits.
Overall, this is a well sorted and evidently well cared for Ferrari, with a gorgeously specified interior that will age beautifully - and has been doing so for the last 18 years. Can you believe that’s how old this car is? Because we can’t!

The Exterior

  • Metallic silver paintwork
  • Navy blue soft-top
  • Original 5-spoke alloy wheels shod in Bridgestone rubber
  • Black 4-piston callipers
  • Iconic glass engine cover
  • Corrosion free example
Beautiful, isn’t it? The 360 really did set a new standard for Ferrari, introducing voluptuous curves and deep air intakes, a body style that would later be used in the F430.
Finished in a wonderful metallic silver paint job, and featuring a navy blue soft top, it appears classically sophisticated. Starting at the front of the vehicle we can see those iconically styled headlights and large air dams which sit just below, up front this Ferrari is very well kept and undeniably pretty. The paintwork presents itself in great condition with it proving difficult to find flaws with, no scratches are visible and the body panel gaps are all of factory fitment.
Moving to the side of the vehicle we see the all-famous “Starfish” 18-inch wheels finished in silver, all of which are in great condition with no signs of any curb markings and are all shod in good Bridgestone rubber with loads of tread left. Just behind all 4 of the wheels on the arches, there are small factory-fitted strips of paint protection film which have discoloured over time, but have certainly served their purpose and kept stone chips away from these high-wear areas. These PPF strips are easily replaceable, too! The Scuderia wing shields remain proudly placed just ahead of the wing mirrors, echoing the importance and prestige of the vehicle.
Scooting around to the rear, we’re presented with arguably one of the most famous modern day Ferrari rear ends, with the four circular rear light and four exhaust pipes, and of course that glorious glass engine cover giving you a peek at the roaring V8 that powers this piece of engineering mastery. Again, all back here is in great shape, the badges are present and bright and the lights are free from damage, as is the bright paintwork. The exhaust tips could use a little polish, but maintaining a supercars exhaust tips is a tedious task!
Overall, this Ferrari is in fantastic shape. Paintwork is excellent, no signs of damage and the retractable roof shows no signs or rips or tears. Truly a well cared for and loved example of a prestigious supercar, and one worthy of the title.

The Mechanics

  • 3.6L V8
  • Mid engined
  • 6-speed ‘F1’ Graziano automated manual transmission
  • Rear wheel-drive configuration
  • 395bhp and 275lb-ft
  • 0-60 in 4.5 seconds
  • Full service history with all bills
  • Timing belts done twice in the last 14,000km
All aluminium, space frame chassis, developed in partnership with Alcoa which weighed 28% less and was 40% more rigid than its predecessor. Quite an impressive bit of engineering, that’s for sure. Perfectly paired with a 3.6L V8 with a flat-plane crank and titanium connecting rods, mid-mounted and producing a whopping 395bhp made for an absolutely incredible driving experience that was hard to achieve anywhere else.
This particular example has been well maintained and has had the timing belts replaced, once at 65,726km in 2016 and again at 68,822km in 2019 - fair to say then that no expense has been spared on this Italian piece of artwork. Reportedly, this Ferrari is in flawless mechanical condition and accelerates hard as you would fully expect, with that F1-style gearbox making precise and responsive gear changes at the command of your finger tips. There are no knocks, bangs or clunks to be heard when driving this 360, just the wonderful grunt of that high-revving V8 mounted right behind you - what an experience that is in itself!

Summary

Truly, a staple in Ferrari’s timeline. In virtually every aspect, this is a much better car than the F355. Maybe not quite as charismatic, or quite as timeless, but in terms of mechanical advances and true get-your-heart-racing performance, the 360 takes the cake. And not to mention, a well sorted 360 (like this one) can be picked up for much less than the equivalent F355 - it’s a no brainer.
Finding a cared-for example in such mouth-watering specifications can be a tough and tedious task. And you’d be right in thinking that surely it will only become more difficult as these cars appreciate over the years. Don’t let such a pretty and sound example like this slip away!
