The Background
The Z3 is a popular 2-seater roadster, based off of the E36 3 Series, and the very first mass produced Z car from BMW, and the first to be solely manufactured outside of Germany - instead they were made in South California. To this day, the Z3 remains a relevant and important part of the roadster family - and can still compete with some of the heavy hitters in the current market in terms of performance and fun.
The History
Being such a low mileage car, this Z3 doesn’t have a very big story to tell in regards to history. It has been cared for and looked after by a roadster enthusiast for the last couple of years and it is time to let it fall into the hands of someone who would make good use of it - it’s a prime example of one ready to be used on the regular.
The car has been kept up to date with any service schedules and MOT’s regardless of yearly mileage and any mechanical work that has needed to be done, has been done properly.
The Paperwork
MOT paperwork and service paperwork come along inside a leather booklet - as well as any maintenance invoices the car has required over the years. Although, because of how low mileage this car is, there isn’t a massive amount of paperwork. It just goes to show it’s been a great runner!
The V5C is ready to be signed over to the new owner.
The Interior
The black leather upholstery has held up very well over the years, with very little signs of usage, only some very minor scuffing on the driver side bolster, but aside from this the seats are still plush and supportive, and look fantastic for their age! The M-Sport steering wheel is fitted and looks to be in great shape too, no fading on the airbag cover and the leather is tear free with all of its stitching intact. The footwell carpets are in great condition with none of the usual flattened areas or holes you get in regularly used cars, the carpet is still plush and soft to the touch.
The dashboard and all of the centre console controls work as you would expect them to, with the addition of an aftermarket Alpine head unit fitted to the vehicle to keep the car compatible with modern requirements (such as bluetooth, USB and AUX connectivity). The screen printing on all of the control dials all appear to be great and clearly visible, and there are no unwelcome warning signs present on the dashboard upon starting the car.
A lovely place to be - with the option of making it even better and throwing the roof down too!
The Exterior
Finished in a stunning Topaz Blue, which is quite a rare and limited BMW colour that can be somewhat difficult to come across, this Z3 can certainly catch a few looks. Fitted with aftermarket diamond cut 19” alloys on low profile tyres, it gives this car an aggressive look. The car of course has the usual stone chips here and there.
The headlight housings are still in great shape with no signs of any cracks or damage, and the optional clear side indicators make the front end look that bit better! The fog lights and kidney grills are present and show no signs of damage either. A fantastic looking motor!

Around to the side of the car we can get a better look at those 19” wheels, which do have some areas of curbing on all 4 corners. All of the tires appear to have plenty of meat on them, too! On the passenger side door there is a very small door ding that you can see throwing the reflections off ever so slightly, however aside from this the panels all look great with good panel gaps between them. The side grills have been replaced with chrome versions which are complemented by the diamond cut alloys.
To the rear of the vehicle we can see that a luggage rack has been fitted to the bootlid - the rack itself seems in good condition however the support brackets which hold it in place have begun to rust and over time, the paint underneath these support bars seems to have etched a little.
The rear tail lights are in good shape, and being the facelift model we can see they have the revised shape to them that the 90’s models didn’t get. A nice little aesthetical improvement over the previous years, we think. The bumper paint appears to be well kept with no signs of damage - so overall there isn’t anything to worry about here.

The Mechanics
Powered by a 1.9 litre 4-cylinder producing around 117bhp from the factory, and powered through a manual transmission to the rear wheels, this little Z3 shows no signs of any problems. It fires up at the turn of the key and purrs quite happily under load - thanks to the lightweight roadster design the 1.9L engine doesn’t struggle to push it around, and thanks to the rear wheel drive configuration it’s actually a rather engaging car to be in the driver seat of!
As can be seen by the MOT history of the vehicle, there has never been any major problems with this car and it has flew through the vast majority of them with flying colours - a testament to how well cared for this car has been over its lifetime.
The Appeal
A Z3 is a wonderful little roadster, full of character and fun driving potential. A low mileage example like this is like a needle in a haystack. It would be a shame to miss out on such a lovely bit of kit!
