Highlights
• An original and well-presented example in the fetching Lapis Blue paintwork
• Modest original mileage having covered a little over 4,500 miles a year on average
• A well-maintained example with a mix of main dealer and independent specialist history
The Appeal
The Porsche Boxster first appeared in 1996 with a name combining its key attributes of a boxer engine and its design as a roadster. In fact, it became the first Porsche to be specifically designed as a roadster since the 914 so it has always been somewhat of a milestone car for Porsche.
Today, Boxsters must represent the best value prestige sports cars with the best appreciation potential of any of its era. They continue to represent excellent value for Porsche aficionados and car enthusiasts alike, a situation that won’t prevail forever making this an excellent time to buy.
The History and Paperwork
• Built in 2001 and delivered to its first owner in June of that year via main dealer Carrs Porsche of Exeter
• Continued to be looked after by Carrs until 2007 and around 52,000 miles
• The current owner acquired the car in June 2021
• It is purely the arrival of another Boxster project car that prompts the sale of this well cared for car
• The car comes with a good level of provenance providing paperwork
• The original service book contains 17 entries detailing both main dealer and independent maintenance
• A number of invoices are present including one detailing a full service in 2021 at 97,369 miles
• The current V5 in the name of the owner is present and the car is MOT’d until December 2022
The Interior
• The interior provides an object lesson in the high quality delivered by Porsche in the early 2000’s
• Appearing to be entirely original and period correct with just the exception of the stereo head unit
• In excellent condition throughout and finished in a mix of complimentary black leather and Alcantara
• The dashboard, door cards and carpets are all presented very well too and are finished in a range of dark, complimentary colours and textures
• The three spoke leather steering wheel and the signature 3-gauge instrument binnacle are in equally good condition
• The Tiptronic gear lever exhibits some minor wear but other than that this is an interior in excellent original condition
Every facet of the Porsche Boxster showcases the amount of thought and attention to detail and quality that Porsche poured into this milestone car. The interior is certainly no exception to that. It provides a sporty ambiance for sure but not at the expense of comfort and quality. Surely one of the best sports car cabins of the period and this one is in fine fettle.
The Exterior
• Well presented in gleaming Lapis Blue paintwork
• Generally, in very straight condition with only a couple of minor age-related marks noted on close inspection
• Panel gaps are of typical Porsche tolerances appearing both tight and symmetrical
• Light lenses, screen and windows all appear original and good used condition
• The blue fabric hood appears to be in excellent condition and operates smoothly and quickly
• The five spoke, 18-inch Porsche alloy wheels present well with some minor kerb rash only evident on close inspection
• Tyres are a mix of quality Pirelli Cinturato (front) and Michelin Pilot Sport (rear)
The Boxster was an innovative design concept at launch in the late 1990’s. The intervening years haven’t done anything to dim the ambition of the design. The Boxster still turns heads and raises a smile and this example looks especially fetching in the dark Lapis blue, a colour which represents a mere 16% of Boxster production.
The Mechanics
• This Boxster features the 2.7L, flat 6 boxer engine originally rated at a healthy 217 bhp
• In this car, power is fed to the rear years via the 5 speed Tiptronic gearbox
• The Boxster is a light car making for a sporty drive which originally delivered a 0-60mph time in the mid 7 seconds and a 150mph + top speed
• This car is a well-maintained example and, as such, all mechanical systems are reported to be in excellent working condition
• The car enjoyed a full service and oil change a few hundred miles ago
The Boxster was always conceived as a true driver’s car and this ambition remains obvious some 20 plus years on. The car starts and idles faultlessly and the owner reports that it drives very well indeed with the Tiptronic, 5 speed gearbox suiting the flat six boxer engine very well. An ideal combination of robust performance when required and relaxed and effortless town driving.
The vendor reports that the coolant light has an intermittent fault but the coolant system is working as it should with the documents to prove this.

Summary
Boxsters continue to offer excellent value for money….for now. You only have to look at earlier, entry level Porsches like the 912, 914 and even 924 to see what the halo effect of the 911 is doing to values. Cars that until recently were quite attainable are now demanding significant sums. This Boxster, then, may offer the opportunity of good value Porsche ownership at an opportune time before prices potentially soar.
This is a great proposition of a car too. Well maintained, sensible mileage and a great colourway. It offers all the key ingredients of a pleasurable and rewarding Boxster ownership experience.
