The Appeal
Introduced in 1997, the Porsche 996 has gone down in Porsche history as the first 911 to adopt water cooling which they continue to use today.
What is often forgotten is that the Carrera 2 remains the lightest water-cooled 911 to date and the 3.4-litre flat-six is capable of propelling this car to speeds in excess of 174 mph.
Here we have a Carrera 2 Cabriolet which is suffering from a couple of electrical gremlins but otherwise is a presentable example. The vendor informs us that an ECU fault has affected the operation of the steering wheel controls, doors, windows and hood, although the car drives as it should.

The Interior
- Black leather seats in good cognition with light, even wear
- The radio does not currently function
- Corded car phone fitted
- The gauges are clear, legible and function as they should
- The dashboard appears free from UV damage
- The carpets would benefit from a good clean although look very serviceable
- There is a tool kit present
The Exterior
- Silver paintwork in very good overall condition
- With the exception of a dent on the soft top cover, the bodywork appears very straight
- There are a couple of scratches on the bumper and front wings although these are hardly noticeable
- The alloy wheels are described by the vendor as being in “fair” condition
- The folding roof does not currently function
- The passenger door does not currently open
- The electric windows cannot be lowered
The Mechanics
- Water-cooled 3.4-litre flat-six engine
- The vendor informs us that there is an ECU fault
- The Tiptronic gearbox works well although the controls on the steering wheel do not

Summary
We reckon this 996 Cabriolet has a lot of potential… With some work to the electrical system, it could be a very nice example that will be fantastic to drive.
