2001 Jeep Wrangler 60th Anniversary Edition

*** Interested parties should note, this vehicle was subject to a CAT N insurance write off in 10/2001 ***

Highlights

  • Desirable one-year-only special edition
  • One owner from new
  • Excellent condition & Low mileage

The Background

The second generation model of the wildly successful Jeep Wrangler line was introduced in 1996, and referred to internally (and by enthusiasts) as the ‘TJ’ model Wrangler. Powered by a multitude of inline-four and inline-six engines and available in a number of body styles, trim levels and transmission setups, the Wrangler could tackle everything from daily driving duties to beach weekends, off-road adventures and even saw use in commercial rescue applications around the world.
Underneath, numerous improvements over the previous generation could be found, such as fully-independent suspension in place of coil springs, an enlarged fuel tank, and other minor mechanical upgrades, which allowed the TJ to suit urban life as much as off-road trekking.

The History

First registered in 2001, this TJ is an example of the rare, one-year-only 60th Anniversary model, and has been in the care of the same owner since new, having only covered c. 51,000 miles in its lifetime.
Finished in Silverstone Metallic (60th cars were available only in this colour or metallic black) the 60th Anniversary edition boasted numerous cosmetic and comfort upgrades, including the following items:
  • Full ‘Sahara’ specification, minus the seats and decals
  • 4.0-litre inline-six engine
  • Body-colour wheel arches and rocker sills
  • Model-specific mats
  • Full metal doors (as opposed to half-canvas items)
  • 30” ‘Canyon’ tire/wheel combination
  • Fog lamps and tow hook
  • AM/FM radio with CD player, upgraded speakers and separate subwoofer
Extensively used in its first few years of life - having clocked up 41,000 miles by 2005, in the years since it has only covered c.12,000, which adds up to less than 1,000 miles per year.
Thanks to its easy-going life (i.e no major off-road expeditions that our vendor is aware of) this example is in fantastic condition for its age, and especially in comparison to many other TJ Wranglers available on the market today.
It should be noted that this particular example is registered as CAT N, having been unfortunately stolen in October 2021, and then subsequently recovered with no damage.

The Paperwork

Included with the vehicle is a stamped service record (two stamps) two sets of keys, the owner’s handbooks and stereo handbook. The vendor who is in the motor trade has not applied for a new V5, as they did not wish to add another owner. The new owner will need to simply apply for a log book with DVLA using the V62 form.

The Interior

Stepping inside the vehicle, it is clear to see that compared to many of its ilk, this Wrangler has led a comparatively easy life, having seen extensive use in the first few years and then minimal use in the last 16 years of its existence.
Naturally, there is some wear-and-tear to be found, most notably on the lower half of the dash, high-traffic areas such as the shifter, door cards and steering wheel, and some light marks on the inside of the folding canvas roof.
That said, the wear that we can see is notably minimal for a vehicle of this age and mileage, especially one that was designed with off-road adventure in mind. There is no sign of any rips, tears or heavy damage to the seats that we’ve seen, nor any major staining to the carpets or damage to the removable soft-top.

The vehicle was used as a two-seater car and does come with the rear seats. These will need fitting should the new owner wish.
The standard radio still remains installed in the dashboard, and our vendor knows of no faults, issues or warning lights that need to be mentioned.

The Exterior

As per the interior, the bodywork and paint on this special-edition Wrangler has been clearly cherished throughout its years, and has stood the test of time well, with only some light wear visible, such as the usual smattering of stone chips to the front end, and a few other notable chips which have been touched-in with Silverstone Metallic paint.
The wheels are all in excellent condition with no major kerbing noticed, and there are no signs of any bubbling that we can see in the photographs, which is backed up by the vendor stating that all of the arches and wings are smooth and free of corrosion.
Elsewhere, all of the light lenses are clear and free of damage, and the bodywork is straight throughout as far as we can see.
Up above, the folding soft-top is in good order, and there are no reported waterproofing issues.

The Mechanics

Freshly under-sealed and recently serviced, the mechanicals, chassis and suspension components on this TJ are in excellent order throughout, having benefitted from preventative maintenance and regular care throughout the vehicle’s life, along with minimal use in recent years.
As far as we can see, the underside is in fantastic condition, with no sign of any concerning issues that we can see, nor that have been reported to us. Similarly, the 4.0-litre straight-six engine is visually wonderful and has been detailed thoroughly, whilst the vendor states that it runs fantastically and feels very “tight” out on the road, thanks to its easy life and low mileage.
The most recent MoT exam - dated 22 January 2022 - shows a clean first-time pass with no advisory items.

The Appeal

A timeless design and offering “exceptional value compared to Land Rovers of the period” the Jeep Wrangler TJ has an enduring appeal across all ages and walks of life, from agricultural users to urban-dwellers and surfer dudes, it really is an excellent example of a vehicle being truly class-less in its design.
This particular 2001-registered example benefits from a high standard specification thanks to being a one-year-only special edition, and is presents in outstanding condition throughout, recently serviced and with a low recorded mileage. If you’re on the hunt for a Wrangler, then look no further - good luck!
