The Background
The Jaguar XK is a two-door 2+2 grand tourer manufactured and marketed by Jaguar Cars from 1996–2014 in coupé and convertible body styles. The XKR joined the range in 1998 to bring a high-performance derivative to the range.
In the run-up to the 2000 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Jaguar announced the launch of the limited edition XKR Silverstone. A short-run derivative with only 50 coupes and 50 convertibles released. The car helped celebrate Jaguar’s Formula 1 return to the historic race circuit.
Subtle enhancements to the model included exclusive Silverstone badges and kick plates, a contrasting piped leather sports interior and upgraded Brembo brakes courtesy of Jaguar’s SVO (Special Vehicle Operations) team.
The glorious BBS, 20-inch Detroit wheels were an obvious upgrade. The engine remained the same as the “standard” XKR – the torquey 4.0 AJ-V8 coupled with a substantially meaty Eaton supercharger. The supercharger itself boasted a 2.0L capacity and delivering a shade under 12Ibs of boost. This was enough to unleash 370 unforgiving and muscular horses.

The History
The car is a UK specification, right hand drive car which was officially supplied to Japan from new. The car has enjoyed two careful owners whilst in Japan, having covered a low mileage. Being a Japanese car, it has spent its life on salt-free roads, which has definitely helped preserve this special car.
The car has recently been re-imported to the UK and registered on a current V5 and issued with a new MOT, ready to be enjoyed by the next lucky owner.
The Paperwork
The car comes with a good level of paperwork. This includes a current UK V5 and hard copy MOT valid until 27.01.23. The car passed without advisories unsurprisingly.
Also included is the Japanese mileage verification document and the HMRC and DVLA documentation relating to the import of the car and confirming that all VAT and duty has been correctly accounted for.

The Interior
The XKR’s pristine Charcoal interior is both sumptuous and fully appointed. The upholstery is unique to the Silverstone with its contrasting, red stitched piping. It all appears to be in pristine condition too!
The door cards continue the stitched, piped leather theme as well as featuring dashes of the Silverstone specific, “smoke” maple veneer which features extensively on the dash and centre console.
There are all the toys on offer here including electric everything (seats, steering column, headrests) and very useful refinements such as full air-conditioning, original upgraded Alpine stereo and factory-fitted satellite navigation system.
The Exterior
As you will see from our photographic package, this is a very eye-catching car indeed. The combination of gleaming Platinum Silver paintwork (the only XKR Silverstone colour choice) and matching BBS Detroit 20” really make this car pop. The body and paintwork appear to be in excellent original condition.
Those special BBS alloys are in great order. Being original to the car, there is the odd small mark here and there, but these are only noticed on close inspection. Being 10 inches wide at the rear and 9 inches at the front, the Detroits help give this XKR a very purposeful stance indeed.
The paintwork has a high gloss finish to it and no areas of lacquer deterioration, dulling or crazing are noted or reported.
The Mechanics
There is a special engine nesting under that long, feline bonnet. The 4.0 AJ-V8 engine debuted in the XK8 and was already praised for its power, refinement, and relative economy. The addition of the large Eaton supercharger really is the icing on an already very tasty cake!
As you might expect from a car that has always clearly been so lightly used and so well maintained, all mechanical systems on this car are reported to work faultlessly.
The Appeal
The appeal of this car is very easy to quantify. A shapely British GT car with a powerful supercharged V8 under a long, curved bonnet is a great place to start, of course.
Add into that heady mix the rarity appeal of the Silverstone Edition – a mere 50 built – and the subtle enhancements that brings. The sublime 20-inch BBS Detroit wheels, for example, giving the car an extra degree of muscular road presence.
Round that out with the reassurance of this being a corrosion free, low mileage car it is becomes hard to imagine a more enticing prospect for fans of ultra-cool British GT hero-cars.
