The Appeal

BMW got a lot right with the Z3. A straight-six engine driving the rear wheels via a manual gearbox is always a great formula. Couple that with the Z3’s attractive styling and convertible roof, you have a very fine sports car indeed.

Here we have a smart 2001 example that’s spent much of its life in Jersey covering relatively few miles. Now back in the UK, it awaits its next owner and the vendor informs us that it will have been freshly serviced prior to collection.

The History and Paperwork

The car was originally registered here in the UK but spent much of its life in Jersey where it wore the registration ‘J121014’

Now wears its mainland UK registration ‘Y36 DKC’ which was re-issued after the last MOT

The Interior

Black leather upholstery in good condition for its age

Besides some light creasing to the seats, they’re not excessively worn

The vendor points out a small split in the passenger seat squab although this is not very noticeable and a replacement seat cover will be provided.

Very presentable black carpeting

The boot remains in good order with a few marks to the carpet

Only light wear to the controls

The dashboard appears free from damage

The vendor informs us that everything works correctly

The Exterior

The manual canvas roof is in good order and operates correctly

Attractive blue paintwork with a few small blemishes

There is light scratching near the fuel filler

The vendor points out some small dints in the passenger door, bonnet and boot lid

There are some scrapes under the front bumper which have been touched in

Equipped with deep dished wheels and the originals are available also

The vendor informs us that there are no signs of corrosion anywhere to be seen - thankfully the roads in Jersey are salt free so with UK examples becoming more prone to corrosion, this is a strong car to enjoy.

The Mechanics

2.2-litre straight six reportedly runs well and is in healthy order

We’re told that the five-speed manual gearbox selects gears smoothly

The vendor informs us that the car drives well, makes a great noise and is surprisingly rapid

New brake pipes were fitted for the December 2022 MOT test

Summary

This is a very presentable low mileage example of the coveted BMW Z3. If you’re looking for a fun summer sports car or a donor vehicle for one of the many Z3-based replicas this smart BMW would be a great option.
